Briarlake Students and Teachers Support "Smart Lunch, Smart Kids"!
Kindergartners Learning a Nutritious and Caring Lesson

What an amazing day in Kindergarten! Our overarching STEM unit is how to get fresh fruits and vegetables to food deserts or to people who essentially do not have easy access to it. Thanks to the amazing efforts of  Mrs. Baerman;  we were able to connect with an organization called "Smart Lunch, Smart Kids" at Oak Grove Methodist Church that packs lunches every single
Wednesday during the school year and delivers them to Montclair Elementary School.

Our students were given the opportunity to pack healthy lunches for students at Montclair Elementary to have over the weekend who would not usually be able to afford healthy food at home. Montclair is located less than 4 miles from Briarlake and is essentially right it our own backyard! 95% of their students receive free or reduced lunch.

Our classroom parents donated all of the fresh fruits and Oak Grove Methodist Church donated everything else from their food pantry.  Today we packed 140 sack lunches for the students to receive on Friday! We are so proud of our students and hope to team up again with this organization in the future!
Camp Invention at Briarlake
Camp Parent Needed for Camp Invention
Registration for Camp Invention is open! And Ms. Thomas is looking for a Camp Parent. As an incentive, the Camp Parent will receive free enrollment for the first child and $130 off each additional sibling (can you say AWESOME deal?). Click here for more information or contact Ms. Thomas if you are interested in learning more!

DeKalb School of the Arts Presents Broadway's smash hit musical"Memphis!"

Winner of four Tony Awards® including Best Musical,
Best Score, Best Book and Best Orchestrations .
"Memphis" takes place in the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 50s, where a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun falls in love with everything he shouldn't: rock and roll and an electrifying black singer Felicia Farrell. "Memphis" is an original story about the cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music changed forever.
