Spring Greetings from the Wine Cave

Holiday dinner wine pairs

What's for spring holiday dinner at your house?
Maggie Malick's Wine Cave can help you choose which of her grapes-turned-award-winning wines will pair well with your Easter or Passover dinner.
Maggie's Tannat (now on sale), Cab Franc, Garnacha pair well with ham or pork. Garnacha, in particular, i s lighter bodied with a bright acidity that cuts the fat in pork. Captain's Cuvee , a red wine,  or Maggie's Chardonnay (stainless or oak vintages) could pair with chicken lightly seasoned with herbs, like thyme, rosemary or oregano. The Captain's Cuvee, Meritage and Cabernet Sauvignon pairs with classic lamb, too.
And don't forget dessert! Maggie's Petit Manseng Sweet Reserve pairs with cheesecake, carrot cake, creme brulee or key lime pie.
* Come to the Wine Cave now through April 15 to get advice on what to serve with your meal! Easter is April 16; the Wine Cave is closed Easter Sunday ONLY, so our staff can spend the day with family and friends.

Wine Cave appears in Washingtonian Magazine

Watch for Maggie's Wine Cave in the
April 20 edition of The  Washingtonian
magazine.
The issue will feature a cover story on DC-area wineries - including Maggie's Wine Cave.
Check Washingtonian  online, your mailbox or newsstand after April 20 for the cover story on great Virginia wineries.

Maggie and Mark host an employee wine dinner every spring to thank their Wine Cave team for the hard work they do.
This year, the multi-course meal featured some especially good dishes, including Authentic Ragu Bolognese made by esteemed Wine Cave friend Janet Mulhern.
You can make the recipe with Maggie's Chardonnay or her Melange Rouge. Click here for more on Janet's Bolognese and a Petit Manseng Cheesecake, made with Maggie's Petit Manseng Sweet Reserve wine.

Meet Jet, Wine Cave puppy

Maggie, Mark and Moxie introduce the newest addition to the Wine Cave.
Jet, a 4-month-old black Labrador Retriever arrived in late March. Jet and Moxie are rescued dogs.
Jet came to the Wine Cave following the February passing of Maggie and Mark's beloved dog, Abby.
The new pu ppy is Moxie's shadow, helping him stay active and lose weight.* Jet may even be a Dock Dog contender some day!

*Please refrain from feeding the Wine Cave dogs. Despite what they tell you, both are well fed!

Pour a glass for the story of Captain's Cuvée

Maggie recently added the brand new red wine, Captain's Cuvée to the Wine Cave tasting menu. It's a special project of viticulturist (and Maggie's husband) Mark, a former U.S. Navy pilot and airline captain.
Mark's favorite wine is from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, a region in the Southern Rhone Valley, France, that is known for its blend (or cuvée) of grenache, syrah and mourvèdre wine. (Chateauneuf-du-Pape, or, the pope's new castle, takes its name from the time when the pope moved to Avignon in 1309; the first vines were planted there by the ancient Romans.)
Captain's Cuvée is  Maggie's Virginia-grown twist on a classic French wine. Captain's Cuvée is a flavorful medium-bodied blend with hints of red berries, vanilla and white pepper. It pairs well with lamb or beef. It also is a bronze medal winner in the Virginia's Governor's Cup. Now available to all Wine Cave guests, wine club members already have been enjoying it as part of the spring release.
Visit the Wine Cave and taste Captain's Cuvée for yourself!

Maggie's Wine Club: Membership has its benefits

Wine Club members should snap up the exclusive Fortissimo while you can; it is a limited-release wine available,  first, to our Maggie Malick Wine Club members.
