April 2018 Newsletter
SAVE THE DATE: Sleep Out 2018
Our next Off the Street, On Their Feet: Sleep Out to Support Homeless Families event will take place at our shelter overnight on Friday, October 5, 2018.

Participants sign up to fundraise and sleep rough outside for one night in solidarity with homeless families in our community. Over 1,000 homeless family members are on the streets of Atlanta every night and more than 800 of those are children. Sleeping outside for one night reminds homeless families that they are not alone and empowers Nicholas House to provide life-changing services to homeless families in need.

Keep your eyes out for the sign-up page and more details posted soon on our social media and website! Click the icons below to follow us on the social media platform of your choice.

Corporate Leadership Council Shines a Light
On March 27, 2018, Nicholas House hosted our first-ever Corporate Leadership Council (CLC) luncheon.

Chaired by Board member Rob Milstead from Genuine Parts Company, the event offered representatives from companies all across the metro Atlanta area the opportunity to learn more about the issue of family homelessness and brainstorm resources and solutions alongside Nicholas House. Attendees include representatives from CarMax, Chick-fil-A, Cox, Delta Community Credit Union, Enterprise Holdings, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Publix, Ricoh, and other companies.

For an annual fee, CLC members enjoy the opportunity to involve their company in direct volunteerism and engagement at Nicholas House, quarterly networking meetings and the warmth of knowing that they are part of the solution to the issue of family homelessness.

We are deeply lucky to enjoy the support of so many generous corporate partners!

Corporate Partner Spotlight: Publix Super Markets
Every day, Nicholas House relies on the community to help make what we do possible. From dinner volunteers to tutors to major donors to those who make a small but meaningful gift, YOU make what we do possible.

This month, we would like to recognize Publix's commitment to serving the homeless families in our programs.

On April 3, dozens of their staff participated in a Publix Serves Day beautifying our shelter yard and interior in addition to donating mountains of care kits stuffed with necessities.

To top it off, they generously selected Nicholas House as the recipient of a $15,000 gift through their Food For All Campaign. This annual campaign runs during the holiday season and funds raised are used to support local programs designed to fight hunger and promote self-sufficiency in our communities. Customers and associates contribute by purchasing contribution cards in $1, $3, or $5 amounts. In 2017, Publix collected a total of $6.4 million for Food For All.

We are so grateful to the Publix team for their volunteerism and ongoing support!

Summer Camp Volunteer Groups Needed

Every summer, Nicholas House offers a free summer camp to about 40 children in our programs.

This year, camp can be even more awesome with your help!

We need volunteer groups to plan activities for the kids for a 3-4 hour block between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm on June 7, 14, 21, 28 and July 5, 12 and 26. Activity options are endless: carnival, tournaments, relay races, crafts, an outdoor BBQ, dancing or other fun ideas.

Even better if your group can provide lunch.

Interested in booking your company, faith group, civic organization or friends to volunteer?

Email Norma for more information.

All adult volunteers working with the youth must first complete and clear a background check.
