Spring News!

A few bits and pieces for you today - the pictures from the Conference are now available for you to view - see below for the link.

And there's an opportunity for anyone in South West England to attend a new event, which should be amazing!

I was going to also say - isn't lovely to see some bright sunshine, it was lovely driving across the New Forest this morning to take my son to college, but I've just looked out the window and it's raining!  Typical!  Ah well, maybe the sun will return soon.

Annual Conference

If you'd like a flavour of our recent Conference, here is a link to all the photos that were taken on the day!  Videos will be uploaded to Youtube in the next couple of months.

And the date for next year's Conference - Saturday 6th May 2017, at the Hilton Coventry.  We're planning a bit of a shake-up of format next time, but quite how that will work out, I'm not exactly sure at present!!  You'll just have to come along to find out...!
Health and Wellness Day

Thanks to Awards for All, we are piloting a new event for Members ONLY - a mini conference facilitated by our member Rebekah Lee, who is a physiotherapist but also has CMT.  The idea of the day is that there will be a series of short talks - from Rebekah, from a dietician and from a podiatrist amongst others, interspersed with some practical exercise sessions to help you manage your CMT better.

The idea is, if this event is successful, we will attempt to raise sufficient funds to run at least two or three of these per year, and move around the country to allow people an opportunity to go to one, minimising the travelling.  Each event costs approximately £4000, so quite a job for me!

The first one is on Saturday 21st May, at the Holiday Inn Filton, Bristol.  We have EIGHT vacancies ONLY - the cost is £25.  And as I said, this is for Members Only, so if you want to come, and you're not a member (or you're not sure), please join/renew.  Bookings close on 9th May.

Email Karen on karen@cmt.org.uk for your booking form and a programme.
Walking Aids Survey

Please help Magda Dudziec, a Research Physiotherapist from the Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases in London with her research for her PhD.

She's investigating the use of aids for walking (excluding orthotics) - if you would like to help, please go to http://cmt.org.uk/take-part-in-our-walking-aid-survey-now/ to read all the information on the research, and to find the link to the actual survey.

Many thanks!

Family Conference

Come on - if you have young children with CMT, you know you want to come!  Just log into the Members Area of the website to find all the details and to book.  There are plenty of spaces and bookings won't close until the beginning of July!

Don't forget, it's heavily subsidised, due to the generosity of Jeans for Genes!
Big Health Check and Social Care Open Day and Launch of the Special Olympics
25th May 2016
Oxstalls Sports Park, Plock Court, Tewkesbury Road,
Gloucester GL2 9DW.

If anyone would like more information about this event in Gloucester in May, please email Simon Shorrick on simon.shorrick@nhs.net or phone him on 01452 321015

I'll be there with an information stand, and would be more than happy to see you there!

New Awareness Cards

Still got plenty of these in stock, so if you want to help spread the word, via your medical professionals, please email Yvonne and she'll post you some - enquiries@cmt.org.uk

We also have new stocks of "symptom" cards - little business card-sized information cards, giving basic details about what CMT is, with space for key contact information too.  Yvonne can also supply you with those too.
Changing Email addresses

Over the next few months, we will be changing all the official @cmtuk.org.uk email addresses to @cmt.org.uk (mainly because these ones are free!).  The Trustees have already been changed - contrary to the information on the back of the newsletter - so if you want them, email richard@cmt.org.uk; jeeta@cmt.org.uk etc.  The old emails will remain active for a while yet - both of mine are working, which is very confusing....!  Basically, if the @cmtuk bounces, try it again with @cmt.org.uk!!

Clear as mud...!  Any problems, just ask us in the office and we'll try to sort it out for you.
