Designs with Nature in the ETC Gallery

This exhibit is featuring all natural materials. Natural dyes and ecoprinting are used on silk scarves to create wearable art. The background color is created from natural dyes. The leaf design is extracted from real leaves that are treated with hot water to disperse their signature imprint on the silk. You can wrap yourself in the soothing colors and shapes of nature as you go through your busy day. The leaf transfers are extremely durable: they were once tested with a hot water wash with bleach and did not fade! However long term care of the silk requires hand washing in cold water.

The ecoprinting process has also been applied to commercially dyed and manufactured silk clothing in a genre called upcycling. This term is applied to items that have the same purpose but with additional features; in this application surface design. Another application of upcycling in this show are the commercially produced felted hats. They have been stripped down to just their basic hat shape. Then natural fibers have been needle felted on to the base for a unique one of a kind look.

Upcycling and ecoprinting combine to create a clothing line that is easy on the environment, exciting to wear, and wonderful to view.
