Use a fan to harden up your tomato plants indoors. Notice the open window too...this was a chilly 55 degree day and that toughens up the plants too. Also, the gro lites placed right above the plants prevent them from getting too leggy.
Plant some Herbs along side of your tomatoes. This "Companion planting" keeps garden pests at a minimum.
Basil, oregano, dill, cilantro and parsley are all good. Plus, they help make a delicious Salsa, Braschetta or Spaghetti sauce. Don't forget the best companion plant of all...MARIGOLDS. Pests hat their odor and head the other way. In addition, they help beautify your garden.
Want a GREAT Foliar spray and fertilizer? Make your own "Compost Tea" or "Cow manure tea". Use your own compost or sterilized cow manure from the store. Just toss two small shovelfuls of it into a bucket and fill with rainwater. Your plants will love your for it.

Do you have a problem with those pesky stink bugs? Here's a great way to get rid of them without using harmful checmicals...mix 1 tablespoon of dishsoap in a squirt bottle of water and ZAP em. We had hundreds on our lemon tree and after giving them a good soaking we are now stink bug free. Environmentally friendly and very effective:)
With a mild winter and spring we've got a great head start on this years tomato crop. These were all started in a peat pellet then transplanted into cups where they will happily wait until they are mature enough to go into the garden. Dropping them down into a cup full of dirt is a great way to save those spindly seedlings that took off way too fast. So if your tomatoes are tall and spindly droping them down in a cup full of dirt (up to the first set of leaves) is a great way to save them. FIRST you'll want to put a fan on them for several days to "harden" them up...the stems will turn a purple color and slow down their growth. This "hardening" process will toughen up the stem and keep it from rotting once the moist soil surrounds it.
