A strong finish to the 2017/18 Squash Season
There is going to be a lot of squash action in the final weeks of the 2017/18 season. With various clubs are holding their club championships and league play across the province coming to an end, there are great opportunities to either watch or play in the remaining competitions of the season.
  • The BC Provincial Closed Championships are being held this weekend (Apr 5-8) at the beautiful Jericho Tennis Club. With over 100 entries, $3000 in available prize money and shiny hardware to be won (not to mention the bragging rights), this competition will be fierce and fun to watch!
  • From April 13-15 watch Canada's top doubles players compete in hopes of capturing national titles in their respective age categories. The Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club is hosting the 2018 Canadian Doubles Squash Championships. Matches are also being at by Evergreen, the Hollyburn Country Club and the Vancouver Racquets Club.
  • On April 16th the Jericho Tennis Club will be hosting both the Div 1 Open and Div 1 Women's Vancouver Squash League (VSL) finals. These finals represent a culmination of the best squash the VSL has to offer.

Shakiru Matti Squash Academy partners with VITA
The Shakiru Matti Squash Academy has partnered with the Vancouver International Tennis Academy (VITA) to provide a high-performance training base for athletes in Richmond. Located at what has been known over the years as the River Club, the Academy is pleased that it's been able to make arrangements that will stabilize and grow squash offerings at the site.

Shakiru is very excited to share this news with the squash community, is passionate about developing squash locally, nationally and internationally, and is keen to heighten our game's profile among other sports.

National Volunteer Week
Did you know that April 15-21 is National Volunteer Week?

This gives us a great opportunity to celebrate and thank Canada's 12.7 million volunteers and particularly the many volunteers who make squash happen in BC.
Thank you, Volunteers!

In the spirit of this year's theme "Celebrate the Value of Volunteering - building confidence, competence, connections and community", Squash BC wants you to share your story about your volunteer experience in our community. Entries will be put into a draw for a "Squash BC pack" (a t-shirt, squash balls and grips). The drawn story will also be featured in our next newsletter! Please click here and enter your story!

Volunteer! Consider Squash BC's Board of Directors or Zone Representative roles
Volunteering is often seen as a selfless act; a person gives their time, skills, experience, and passion to help others, without expecting anything in return. And while volunteering is a form of service, many volunteers will tell you that "you get more than you give". From opportunities to develop new skills, to finding deep and meaningful personal connections, the magic of volunteering is that it creates social and economic value for all.

That's why we ask you to consider volunteer roles as a Squash BC Board of Director or as a Zone Representative. These roles are important to our squash community, but we also know they are enriching and engaging opportunities to connect with others who share your values and interests.
  • Board of Directors -- If you like to think creatively, engage in policy decisions, have a commitment to give back to the squash community and have a passion for squash, a role on Squash BC's Board of Directors might be a fit for you. We encourage you to read the Expression of Interest and consider a Board role yourself.  Deadline to apply is April 18, 2018.  Please click here for the nominations form.
  • Zone Representatives - Zone Representatives act as a liaison and represent the interests of the individuals in their zone keeping a broad view of the overall structure, operation and objectives of Squash BC and its membership with the intent of promoting and growing the squash in BC and communicating with members more effectively. Zone representatives are appointed annually by the Board. We encourage you to read the Zone Representative information document and consider a Zone Representative role for yourself. Deadline to apply is April 18, 2018. Click here for the Zone Representative nominations form.

This is your Board and your organization!

Please spread the word to your squash community about these important volunteer roles or consider giving back to the great game of squash by volunteering yourself!
