Club News

SQUASH OUTAOUAIS:
The new year began with welcoming Maxym Leclair of Squash Outaouais as the instructor of the club's junior programs, clinics, lessons and as well tournament support. The 2016 junior program got off to a great start with fourteen keen young players registered. In February Maxym introduced a women's clinic to the programming and will be adding SquashFIT and Beginner Group Lessons in April. If you know someone who might be interested in being introduced to squash, Maxym is offering a FREE initiation lesson on March 16 at 7:15 pm. For more information on these programs, please contact Maxym at squashoutaouais@gmail.com.

WINTER OPEN: The Winter Open Tournament held January 28 to 31 was a success with 89 players in the draw.  Maxym not only helped organize the tournament but he also won the Men's Open title with a convincing win over Pranav Sharma (Montreal).

Other winners include: Men's A - Tarun Balaraj (RA), Men's B - Rob Mulrooney (RA), Men's C - Erez Paz (Garrison), Men's D - Philippe Shillington (OAC), Women's A - Chloe Wren (Spotheque), and Women's C - Abby Russell (OAC). Many thanks to all of the volunteers who helped to make this tournament a tremendous success.

RA FIELDHOUSE LOYALTY PROGRAM:  Did you know that having a beverage or a bite to eat in the Fieldhouse can help support your respective squash club league? All you need to do is mention to the server which squash league that you are a part of. Your league will get back 5% of total expenditures to use towards an end of season wrap-up in the Fieldhouse.

SATURDAY DROP-IN: Times are a changing for those of you who play in the Saturday drop-in please note that the drop-in now starts at 12:30 pm.

RA SEASON CHALLENGE: This year's tournament is in full swing so make sure you get your matches in. The Finals Night will be held on Wednesday, May 18. Please mark this date in your schedule and plan to attend!

RA SQUASH CLUB AGM: Our AGM will be held on Friday, April 8 during our Club Championship Tournament.  One of the items on the agenda is the appointment of Executive Committee members for the 2016-2017 squash season. We are looking for volunteers to step forward and help out!  If you are interested or would like more information please contact Steve Gobel at steve.p.gobel@gmail.com.

SUMMER LEAGUE: Our RA Squash Summer Leagues are not that far off!  Registration will begin in late April / Early May with play starting later in May. Again this year we will run leagues on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Further information will be posted next month.

SPONSORSHIPS:  We have a variety of sponsorship opportunities available for club events, leagues, and tournaments. If you know someone who may be interested in sponsoring an activity please contact Steve Gobel at steve.p.gobel@gmail.com.

RA SQUASH COURT 8: The Squash Club is on facebook!  We would like to invite you to join the club's facebook group. Find out about club happenings as well as connect with your fellow members.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/court8/

LOWER EAST ACCESS: Don't be "alarmed"! For the safety and security of members as well as to prevent usage of the lower east squash & badminton courts by non-paying players, the RA has installed door alarms on the emergency exit doors. These door alarms will be activated on Tuesday, March 15. Therefore, we ask you kindly not to use the emergency exit doors when leaving the lower east area (except in an emergency).

As well, the Club Executive has endorsed the locking of the squash gallery door to prevent non-paying players from accessing the lower east area. The gallery door will remain open during City League, Women's City League and tournament play.

New sign-in procedures for non RA WCL players are being introduced at the East Member Services Desk. These players will now be asked to sign-in and show their home club membership card.

The court walls were cleaned in January. Going forward, the walls will be cleaned semi-annually planned for November and May.

Repairs to the walls on court 1 & 3 were made in January.

The light ballast on court 6 was repaired.

The standard for burned out court light replacement is if two or more lights are burned out on the court.

The warm court temperature that players experienced the past few weeks was caused by a damper that was seized. Repairs have been made to the system and the temperatures should now be at a more acceptable level.
