General News
Midterm Exam Schedule 
(Please Note this Year's Change in 2:45 p.m. Dismissal Procedure)
Please remember that mid-term examinations will be given on Jan. 11-13. Students should report to homeroom at 8 a.m. if they have an 8:15 a.m. exam. Students who do not have an exam until 9:45 a.m. should enter through the Main Entrance on S. Oxford Avenue and remain in the lobby until 9:30 a.m. The Student Council will again have No. 2 pencils and breakfast items for sale in the lobby of the Lawrence B. (Sonny) Sheppard, Jr. Memorial Gymnasium before each exam.

Students are dismissed each day after their last exam. For most students, the second exam ends at 11 a.m., though Advanced Placement students, instructional support students and those students who have more than one class in the same department may be dismissed later. Please ask your child what time they will be finished testing each day. 

For a select number of Seniors, if they do not have Foreign Language or Math, and therefore do not have exams on Thursday, they do NOT have to report to school. Students are permitted to schedule a double exam during this time if they speak with Mrs. Williams.

Gettysburg School District has announced that it will bus students from school to St. Francis Xavier Catholic School and Gettysburg Middle School on exam days, leaving at 11:15 a.m. The Delone Catholic bus service to Maryland will ONLY RUN AT 2:45 p.m. on exam days. (This is a change from previous years when the service ran twice on exam days at 11 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.). Other Pennsylvania bus riders should check with their bus drivers and should make other transportation arrangements if necessary. 

For students who needs to wait for a 2:45 p.m. bus pick up:
Parents must fill out this form. Please be firm in your plans! Once the form is submitted, students must stay on the indicated dates until 2:45 p.m. No changes are permitted. Please contact Mrs. Williams with questions. 
Change in the Language Department Faculty
Our Spanish and French teacher, Mr. Alexander Schirk, will be leaving Delone Catholic in early February to pursue other career plans. We appreciate Mr. Schirk's earnest efforts with our language students during his time here, and wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors.  

The Administration is currently in conversation with excellent candidates qualified to continue Mr. Schirk's good work.   If these discussions do not yield the desired results, we will advertise for the position. If you are in contact with anyone whom you wish to be considered as a candidate, please contact us.
Join the PTO in the New Year!
The next PTO meeting will be held Monday,  Jan. 9 at 7 p.m.  in the faculty dining room, next to the cafeteria. We are in need of new members! PTO is a great way to start the New Year by becoming more active and supportive in your child's school. Now that is a New Year's resolution you can keep! Stop by and check out your child's school PTO, all are welcome!
Stuff the Truck
The Junior Class and Peer Ministry will once again sponsor its annual Stuff the Truck clothing drive during Catholic Schools Week! Please consider donating your gently used clothes.  Donations will be given to the Hanover Council of Churches.

C ollections will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2 from 7:30-8 a.m. and from 2:45-3:15 p.m. and on Friday, Feb. 3 from 7:30-8 a.m.  Donations can be brought to the faculty parking lot (facing Delone Ave.).

Interact Raises Money for Hanover Area Council of Churches
On Wednesday, Jan. 4, the  Interact Club presented Mrs. Hinkle from  Hanover Area Council of Churches  with a check from their pit beef sale. The group raised $1350! Thank you to everyone who supported the sale!
Performance
Save the Date - 8th Grade Dance Jan. 21!
The 8th Grade Dance will be held Saturday, Jan. 21 from 7-9 p.m. in the Delone Catholic Gym Lobby. Cost is $5 to attend and ALL 8th graders from all middle schools, as well as Delone Catholic 9th graders, are invited to attend. Attire is casual. Inclement weather date is Saturday, April 8.

Golden Apple Nominations Now Available
The Donahue Family Foundation will again sponsor the 12th annual Golden Apple Awards Program for the Diocese of Harrisburg,  Through the generosity and kindness of the Donahue Family Foundation, the Golden Apple Awards Program has been established to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic Schools.

The Golden Apple Award will be given to six teachers and one principal, or seven teachers. in the Diocese. The teacher applicant must be nominated by a teacher, parent, or student and parent, in an elementary school; or a teacher, student or parent in a secondary school.  All teacher nominations will be sent to the principal. The principal may be nominated by a teacher or parent and must be approved by the pastor.  Principal nominations will be sent to pastor/chaplain. For more details, and applications,  click here.

Completed nomination packets are due to the Diocese of Harrisburg by Feb. 24.  Please plan accordingly so that packets are given to the principal or pastor with ample time, as explained in the application. 
Diocese of Harrisburg Night at the Hershey Bears
The 10th Annual Diocese of Harrisburg night at the Hershey Bears game will be Saturday, Feb. 4 as we conclude Catholic Schools Week. Here is the order form to purchase discounted tickets. Deadline to order is Monday, Jan. 30. 
Placement Testing for Non-Deanery 8th Grade Students
Delone Catholic desires a smooth and strong transition from grade school to high school for every student. To help ensure incoming freshmen are placed in the courses where they can be most successful, we require each student to take the  High School Placement Test (HSPT)

All eighth graders at Annunciation BVM School, Immaculate Conception BVM School, Sacred Heart of Jesus School, St. Francis Xavier Catholic School and St. Joseph School will take the test in their schools. 

Any eighth grader who attends a Catholic school outside the deanery, a public school, home school or other school needs to make arrangements to take the test on either Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 or Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 at Delone Catholic High School. Testing will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. There is no cost to take the exam. but you MUST register.

The test covers English, science and math. Students need to bring two #2 pencils, a pen and a lunch. To register for the test, please  click here. For more information please contact Mrs. Williams

Volunteer Coordinator Opportunity
The Office of Development and Alumni Relations seeks a volunteer with good organizational and communication skills to serve as a Volunteer Coordinator. This position will match interested volunteers with volunteer tasks/positions as needed for the operation and advancement of the school. The Volunteer Coordinator would assist in the volunteers' preparation for each task/position, collect and communicate feedback from volunteers about their experience, and assist in demonstrating our appreciation for our volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator must have or be willing to get all clearances and training required by the Diocese of Harrisburg and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for adults who work with minors.  Lacrosse Team Buffalo Wild Wings - New Fundraiser!
Thank you to those who supported the lacrosse team's fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings 
on Dec. 17! 

In addition to that day's sales, Buffalo Wild Wings has enrolled us in the Home Team Advantage Plan. This means,  that whenever the attached card is presented for the next 5 months, 10% of the bill will go back to our lacrosse team. It expires May 17, 2017. This card can be presented via, screen shot, 
e-mail attachment or printed out.

Delone Catholic baseball clinics begin in January. Pre-registration ended Jan. 3. Those registering now are not guaranteed a T-shirt.  Please bring personal bats and gloves if available.
