LESSON OF THE WEEK
DISSECTING THE AUTOPSY
After spending the week learning about what goes into planning an autopsy, and doing a practice autopsy on a pickle, Mrs. Amanda Nugent's Anatomy & Physiology students we able to watch an autopsy.  The webcast event included a pathologist who walked the class through the steps of the autopsy while fielding questions from the students.

After watching the autopsy, the students followed up with labs examining data from the toxicology and histology reports.  The weeklong lesson concluded with the students writing an autopsy report which included the cause of death, which students were challenged to determine through their lab results.

This unique opportunity to engage in investigative lab work makes this dissection of an autopsy this week's Lesson of the Week.

TEACHER OF THE WEEK
MRS. DESI GOULD
As the National College Decision Day looms on May 1, Mrs. Desi Gould and the rest of the St. Edward College Counseling staff spent the week honoring seniors and creating excitement across the campus surrounding their college decisions.  College fight songs played through the PA during class changes as were tips from seniors to underclassmen on navigating the college admission process. Mrs. Gould also organized the hanging of college logos on each of the seniors' lockers and St. Edward Faculty & Staff wearing apparel that represented their own alma maters.

The week of events culminated on Thursday in a celebration cookout for seniors, where they donned the t-shirts of the many colleges and universities across the country they will be headed to in the fall. The College Counseling Department also hosted an evening event for parents to celebrate their journey.

Catch Mrs. Gould on Monday's episode of WCPN's Sound of Ideas (90.3 FM) as she discusses the college application process.

For her leadership and enthusiasm surrounding this most important time for our students and their families, Mrs. Desi Gould is this week's Teacher of the Week!

THE WOW FACTOR!
ST. EDWARD STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AS "PROJECT HOPE" WINNERS
Each year, St. Edward students participate in a nationwide competition focusing on Holy Cross identity.  Project Hope 2016 challenged students to answer the question " How can we authentically live a life of mercy?" by creatively responding to one of the following prompts.

Pope Francis recently tweeted, "Let the Church always be a place of mercy and hope, where everyone is welcomed, loved and forgiven." What do you think of this statement? Where else in our lives is it important to show others mercy and hope?

Mercy, or forgiveness from God and others, is a way for us to push the "restart" button in our lives. Is there an experience or time when you wished you could press restart? Tell us about that experience and how it influenced your understanding of mercy.

What works of mercy have you performed or witnessed in others? How do these acts bring you closer to your faith or to God?

Congratulations to the following students who were recognized as prize winners this year:
Elijah Christley, Quinn Baker, Gerry Lavelle, Ethan Fittro, Danny Zahn, Seth Burke, Kordell Hoover, Matt Minotti,
Nick Berchak, Nicholas Greenawalt, Christian Howard and Jared Muller.
