The Weekly Word
2016 is (thankfully) ending.  From all that I have read, heard and experienced it will be a year that many, including myself, will be happy to have behind us!  It is time for a New Year - 2017 - a new beginning and a clean slate.  How can we do this?  There was a meme floating around Facebook that can help:

To take the time to reflect and acknowledge what is good is powerful habit.

There is a prayer tradition in Ignatian Spirituality called the Examen .  It is more of an attitude than a prayer. Each day you set aside time for thankful reflection on where God has been in your day.  You write the note that will fill the jar using God as your lamp and pen.  In the note, you give thanks because the day, regardless of what has happened, is a gift from God.  There will times when your note has your shortcomings and failures.  But good comes from learning from those times.  Finally, you look forward to the next day and ask God for what you need.

Whether we keep a jar of notes or use some other method of noticing the good that surrounds us, we build a shield of God's resilience and presence that will help us weather any storms that may happen in 2017.  Grace and Peace,  Deacon Tamara

Upcoming Events

Begins Wednesday, January 11
Grief is the pain that results from any significant loss, especially the death of a loved one. Mourning (the act of grieving) has no time limit and should be viewed as a process, not an event.  Participation in a bereavement group offers one a sense of community with others who share a common experience that exists in no other venue.  While we may never "get over" the death of someone we love, through the redeeming grace of God, we can move forward in life in the new reality that someone we love is no longer with us on Earth.
If you are grieving the death of a loved one, I invite you to begin a journey toward peace in a Bereavement Group that will meet every other week on Wednesday afternoons from 3:00-4:30pm at St. Francis Episcopal Church. The Group begins on January 11 and ends April 19 for a total of 8 sessions.  To register, please contact the church office - 254 773-4255 or email
