The Weekly Word
All Saint's Day
While the Feast of All Saints' falls on November 1, we will celebrate this Feast on Sunday November 6.  The Book of Common Prayer designates All Saints' as a Principal Feast that may be moved to the nearest Sunday following November 1, "Taking precedence over any other day or observance (BCP, 15).  As its name implies, All Saints' Day is a day intended for the remembering and commending the saints of God, especially those who are not recognized with a feast day on the Church Calendar.

And, this special day is also intended for our commemoration of those whom we love and all Christians who have already entered Life Eternal.

Along with the Feast of the Epiphany, the Easter Vigil, and the Day of Pentecost, All Saints' Day is recommended in the Book of Common Prayer as one of the four holy days especially appropriate for administering the Sacrament of Baptism.

This year at St. Francis, all are invited to come forward and light a candle and name their loved ones who have gone before us, either aloud or in the silence of their hearts.

Blessings+
Fr. Brad

DISCOVERY RETREAT

O ur Baptismal Covenant calls all Christians to be ministers.  The Outline of Faith in the Book of Common Prayer (1979) defines the ministers of the church as "lay persons, bishops; priests, and deacons."  We are all ministers of the church.

What is the Discovery Retreat?
The Discovery Retreat is a weekend gathering to assist participants in becoming intentional about discovering their God given gifts and talents and how these gifts might be used in the mission of the church.

Who can attend the Discovery Retreat?
The Retreat is open to all confirmed members of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas who wish to take the time and make a commitment to discern their vocation.  Participation is highly recommended for those discerning a call to ministries as lay leaders in their church

When and where are the Discovery Retreats held?
In 2017, the retreats are scheduled for January 6-8 and April 28-30 at Camp Allen.

How does one sign up to attend a Discovery Retreat?
As retreats are scheduled, notices regarding the retreat will be sent out through the Diocesan eDiolog.  A link to register on line will be included in the notice.

How do I decide whether or not to attend?
Each person is encouraged to have a conversation with his or her Rector for spiritual counsel and support to participate in the Retreat, although, permission from you church leader is not required to attend the Retreat.

What does it cost to attend the Retreat?
The cost per participant is $175 or $200 depending upon double or single room occupancy at Camp Allen.  If the cost poses an obstacle, see Fr. Brad.
