The Weekly Word
Thought for the Week
W hat is grace?  "Grace is God's favor towards us, unearned and undeserved; by grace God forgives our sins, enlightens our minds, stirs our hearts, and strengthens our wills" (BCP, 858).
From that perspective, I know that I could never attain the ability to live a life worthy of a true Christian. Like all people, I do sin - and through grace, my sins are forgiven. It would be a sad state if I only thought in terms that did not include God and God's creation - and through grace, my mind is enlightened. My motivations would almost surely revolve my own desires and gains without grace - but through grace, my heart is stirred up that I may strive to serve God. Mortal life is filled with challenges, sometimes so much so, that we can feel like giving up - giving up on life and giving up on God - but grace strengthens our wills to continue walking even when the path is difficult and daunting. I did not earn God's grace, nor do I deserve God's grace. Grace is God's gift to you and to me that we may live in ways that lead us to eternal life in God's Heavenly Kingdom. And our response can only be that we show our utmost and humble gratitude to God for the enormous generosity God has shown to us.
O God, you declare your almighty power chiefly in showing mercy and pity: Grant us the fullness of your grace, that we, running to obtain your promises, may become partakers of your heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Blessings+
Fr. Brad

Parish Partnership with St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Orange, TX

Monies have been sent to St. Paul's to help four families whose homes were devastated with flooding. This was an immediate need to make their homes habitable again. Two of the families recently lost spouses and another two have spouses battling cancer and are confined to wheelchairs. They did not have flood insurance. This Sunday you will be given an opportunity to send a note of encouragement to our brothers and sisters at St. Paul's. In your bulletin will be a notecard with a pre-addressed envelope. Please take it home, write a short note of support, and mail it. Below are a few pictures of the damage.

Grace and Peace, Deacon Tamara

WEEKEND NUTRITIONAL BACKPACK MINISTRY:  Each Wednesday morning during the school year at 9:30am volunteers gather at CTLC (Churches Touching Lives for Christ) to fill 400 backpacks for the WNB Ministry. CTLC is located at
702 West Avenue G, Temple TX .

FEED MY SHEEP SACK MEALS (FMS):  On the 2nd Sunday of each month, all are invited to gather in the Parish at 9:30 to prepare 200 sack lunches for our neighbors who have limited access to food. The lunches are delivered to Feed My Sheep. Our next scheduled sack meal preparation is Sunday, October 8. To learn how to get involved, please see Deacon Tamara.

CHURCHES TOUCHING LIVES FOR CHRIST (CTLC) :  The collection item for October 2017 Adult and/or Children's Socks. (Did you know this was the #1 item requested by the homeless?)  Items may be brought to the narthex on Sunday or to the Church Office during weekdays.

ST. FRANCIS GIFT SHOP: As most of you know, the gift shop must have two workers at all times.  We are in desperate need of volunteers.  This is a great time to ask your best friend to sit with you and a great time to socialize and catch up. Please consider, just 3 1/2 hours a month and we will put you on the schedule.

ST. FRANCIS CHOIR: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!" Notice the passage does NOT say we have to have a beautiful voice to praise God! We are looking for new choir members. We practice at 9:30am before we sing at the 10:30am service. So come join us!
