The Weekly Word
"...I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance" (Luke 5:7).  This familiar statement by Jesus points less to the need for repentance than it does to the joy of something that was lost being found.  We all know what it feels like to lose something that we value greatly.  We may experience hurt or sadness, or we may even be angry at ourselves for not being more careful of that which we have lost.  But when we do recover that thing of great value, our joy is so great that we can't wait to tell someone so that we can share our happiness.
That is a mere glimpse of the joy that God feels when any of us submit our minds, our bodies, and our spirits to God with the intention of devoting ourselves fully to God and to take our place in the building of God's Kingdom on Earth.  God is the very source of true joy, and God wants to share that divine joy with each one of us and all who would come to God.

Each Wednesday morning during the school year, at 9:00am, we gather at Churches Touching Lives for Christ (CTLC) to fill 400 backpacks with food for food-insecure schoolchildren.  The children receive a backpack filled with enough food to get them through the weekend on Friday.  On the following Monday they return the empty backpack.  We then fill those empty backpacks again.  Having personally participated on several occasions, I can tell that this is a fun outreach filled with conversation and laughter.  St. Francis has been involved for almost four years. If your schedule permits, please come join us!  See below for location of CTLC.
