The Weekly Word
Thought for the Week
I'm one of those people who worry much more than I ought to.  The source of the anxiety really isn't important - I can worry about things over which I have complete control - and I can worry about things which I have no influence over.  Of course, I do not want to have this troublesome trait, but I guess It was handed down to me through parents and grandparents.  The most interesting thing about this characteristic of mine is that lately I've noticed that a common source of anxiety is making sure that everyone around me is happy - which we all know, is nearly impossible - yet I often still  find myself wrapped up in the happiness of others.

Now, the larger problem with such behavior, by myself or by anyone else, is that working to ensure the happiness of others is often done at the expense of my own well-being.  And the same may be true for you.  And I believe that's because if we focus too much on others, we cannot focus on ourselves.  The very glad news for you and for me is that by focusing on God, we are free to allow others to be happy (or not happy) on their own through the love of God.  By focusing on God, we are able to allow God to turn God's focus upon us, filling us with God's peace and God's joy.  By focusing on God, you and I are released from the terrible burden of trying to do that which is almost impossible and serves as a detriment to our own ability to find joy.

Grant us, O Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, on God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Fr. Brad

Wildscape Head's Up!

You may notice over the next couple of months, changes in the trees around the close and sanctuary.  We will be removing the Bradford Pear trees, which are at the end of their life spans, losing large branches, and causing buckling in our sidewalks.  In place of them we'll be planting some Texas natives that will give us some fall color and some spring blooms.

Parish Partnership

We have been asked by the diocese to partner with St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Orange, TX in their Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Orange received over 60" of rain in under two days. Homes had 3' - 5' of standing water and up to 85% of them do not have flood insurance. Not only were homes destroyed, but cars too. I have spoken to Fr. Keith Giblin, Vicar, at St. Paul's. He is relieved and grateful for any assistance we can provide. It is my hope that we form long term relationships and friendships with the people of St. Paul's. Watch this space for further news on how we can help.

Grace and Peace, Deacon Tamara

WEEKEND NUTRITIONAL BACKPACK MINISTRY:  Each Wednesday morning during the school year at 9:30am volunteers gather at CTLC (Churches Touching Lives for Christ) to fill 400 backpacks for the WNB Ministry. CTLC is located at

FEED MY SHEEP SACK MEALS (FMS):  On the 2nd Sunday of each month, all are invited to gather in the Parish at 9:30 to prepare 200 sack lunches for our neighbors who have limited access to food. The lunches are delivered to Feed My Sheep. Our next scheduled sack meal preparation is Sunday, October 8. To learn how to get involved, please see Deacon Tamara.
CHURCHES TOUCHING LIVES FOR CHRIST (CTLC) :  The collection item for October 2017 Adult and/or Children's Socks. (Did you know this was the #1 item requested by the homeless?)  Items may be brought to the narthex on Sunday or to the Church Office during weekdays.

ST. FRANCIS GIFT SHOP: As most of you know, the gift shop must have two workers at all times.  We are in desperate need of volunteers.  This is a great time to ask your best friend to sit with you and a great time to socialize and catch up. Please consider, just 3 1/2 hours a month and we will put you on the schedule.

ST. FRANCIS CHOIR: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!" Notice the passage does NOT say we have to have a beautiful voice to praise God! We are looking for new choir members. We practice at 9:30am before we sing at the 10:30am service. So come join us!
