Quote of the Week. . .
"I am deeply disappointed by the decision to exclude the transgender community from military service. We are stronger as a nation when we respect the identities of all and allow people to serve their country based solely on their ability.   To those that believe this decision advances Christian values, it does not. Rather, it is a gift to those who seek to misuse religion to justify discrimination against the transgender community.

Transgender people across the country should know they are beloved by God and respected citizens of this country - principles that should be reflected in our laws, and in the teachings of the church. Whoever you are, wherever you are, Washington National Cathedral stands with you. You will always be welcome in our house."
--Dean of the National Cathedral, Randy Hollerith
responding to the Trump administration's proposed ban on transgender individuals serving in the military

Food for Thought. . .
We had our vestry meeting this past week, and Sue Rutz gave a wonderful reflection during our opening Compline service. . .

I'd like to share a conversation about religion I had a few months ago with my co-workers when we were driving to work one morning in Thailand.  In the car with me was Ajer, a Muslim from Pakistan;  Nilesh, a Hindi from India, now living in Dubai; and Piyawit (whom we call Ken), a Buddist from Thailand.  Overall, the tone wasn't to convert or convince anyone, it was just casual conversation, but it left me with a sense of wonderment from their different perspectives.  To read more, click here. . .

A wonderfully insightful piece with Frank Gehry. . .

For Further Reflection. . .
This is worth the listen. . . From this past week's
Radiolab program.  The part of the fox                         adaptation and human possibilities is                                                           fascinating. . .
