Quote of the Week. . .

Food for Thought. . .
Yale professor, Miroslav Volf, writes compellingly about his experience while living in Croatia under Communist rule.  In his book, Free of Charge: Giving and Forgiving in a Culture Stripped of Grace , he describes the psychological torture of a police officer who had detained and interrogated him for his objection to the government at the time.  In the end, Volf was deeply hurt by this experience.  Yet, he also came to realize how important it was for him to forgive his tormentor.  Basically, Volf realized that if he did not forgive the guard, the guard would continue to hold power over him and, thus, continue to traumatize him.  For Volf, forgiveness was an act of liberation fundamental to life.  To read more, click here. . .

Link of the Week
Two clips from the recent U.S. Open Tennis tournament.  The best display of sporting respect, kindness, and friendship.  At the highest level no less.  The first clip is the championship point for Sloane Stephens over Madison Keys, who are friends and both were first time grand slam finalists.  So its in another language.  The class Stephens shows upon realizing she won and the comfort she gives her friend is something we all can learn from.

This is just a wonderful scene.  As the two women wait for the awards ceremony, Stephens moves over to Keys' side of the court.  This is NOT what you are used to seeing at the top of the sporting world.  So genuine and real!  Who cares if it is in a different language.  Their body language says it al.

For Further Reflection. . .
From the TED radio hour.  There are three interviews on the topic of forgiveness.  They are riveting and challenging.
