February 5 - February 12
Quote of the Week. . .
Hospitality means primarily the creation of free space where the stranger can enter and become a friend instead of an enemy. Hospitality is not to change people, but to offer them space where change can take place. It is not to bring men and women over to our side, but to offer freedom not disturbed by dividing lines."

Food for Thought. . .
This past Monday night the vestry met for a special meeting to discuss the recent Presidential Executive Orders and how, if in any way, we might respond.  For me, part of the reason for the meeting was that my good friend, Dr. Kareem Adeeb, and his Muslim community (the American Institute of Islamic and Arabic Studies) who pray at St. Francis, were anxious about what the implications of these orders would mean for them.  Furthermore, given the recent violence at the mosque in Quebec City, they were also rightly concerned for their own safety.  Also, and this is not least in my mind, I was feeling that many people were on edge and uncertain about what these early actions of the new administration meant or could mean, what one could do, and the exhaustion that comes with such a heightened level of stress.  To read more, click here. . .
    Link of the Week
A piece from the Stamford Advocate that  deals with the concerns of Muslims in Stamford following the recent Executive Order regarding refugees and individuals from seven predominantly Muslim countries.  Kareem Adeeb, with whom we have a relationship, is quoted.  Come out for the quarterly conversation we will have with his Muslim community on

and a wonderful piece from Denmark. . .

For Further Reflection. . .
A great TED Talk on how to have better political conversations with people.  A very important piece in this time of polarization.  Thank you, Julia Wade. . .
