Discernment Committee Update
Your Discernment Committee has been meeting weekly since the beginning of February. We have been preparing to launch the search for our new rector in a few ways. We’ve been drafting the documents and forms necessary to communicate our search through online platforms maintained by the Diocese of Pennsylvania and the national church. We’ve begun discussing our selection criteria for a new rector (based on the Parish Profile and recent survey), and shortly we will formulate a winnowing process for the applications we receive. We also met with the Diocese's Canon for Transition Ministry, Arlette Benoit Joseph.

We plan to launch our search on March 15th, and continue to accept applications for three months, until June 15th. If you know of any candidates whom you feel would be the right person for the rector of St. George’s, please refer them to one of us or another committee member. Alternatively, you can direct the candidate to our website, which will soon have a link to the online application process. Please keep us in your prayers, as we strive to represent you, the parishioners, in this important endeavor.

Lenten Quiet Morning

Saturday Joan Cesare gave an informative and thoughtful study on Mary Magdalene. Joan shared her icon of Mary Magdalene, with a note about her artist. Photo display includes Magdala's synagogue, the mikvahs in the town as well as one of a 1-3rd century alabaster jar. The scent of nard shared by Pastor Barbara completed the sensory experience of the morning. ~ Thank you Joan!

Lenten Wednesday Suppers Return March 14, 2018

Plan to make time for this Lenten tradition as we come together to deepen our faith and observe a holy Lent.  Simple soup/salad or pizza suppers followed by a group discussion, then Compline.

Because of the transition in the church office, we have not reported the status of the Capital Campaign for a couple of months. However, we are now catching up and can report the status of the Campaign at the end of January, 2018 . At that time the campaign figures were:

Commitment: $ 222,002 . We have reached and surpassed our campaign goal of $ 220,000! This total is composed of 77 individual commitments. Thanks to all of our parishioners for this outstanding support.

Received: $ 189,300.34 (86% of our Goal) $7,694 was received in December and January. Please be sure to keep your pledge up to date according to the schedule that you specified on your commitment card.

Spent: $ 176,280.38 $1,841.66 was spent in December and January for payments on the boiler loan.

Your Capital Campaign Committee:  April Chester, Emily McGarvey, Glenn Boseman, Phil Moore, Jack Tinkler .
That is one interpretation of how the Bible defines manna. Food that was provided to the Israelites to nourish them for their journey through the desert. For you and I manna is food, and much more. It is a gift we can provide for those In need for their life journey.
Here at St. George’s we have been creating our own version of manna to meet the needs of the homeless in our area. You have contributed your loose change to fund the bags of manna that our parishioners share with the homeless they encounter where they live and work.
This year during Lent we want to create even more manna...
MO’ MANNA ...and we are counting on you to lend a hand.

Here’s how:
Collect loose change and bring it to St. George’s to fund MO’ MANNA items
Contribute items on the manna items list (as requested by clients)
  •                       New white men’s tee shirts (size Large)
  •                       New pairs of men’s white socks
  •                       Juice boxes
  •                       Ramen noodle packets, peanut butter crackers, granola bars
  •                       Toothbrushes
  •                       Travel-sized toothpastes, mouthwash, dental floss
  •                       Travel-sized bars of soap
  •                        small tubes of hand cream
  •                        Small combs
  •                        Small packs of bandaids, hand sanitizer wipes
Bring your contributions (cash and items) to St. George’s by March 11
MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR MARCH 18 when all parishioners (adults and children) are encouraged to gather after the 10 AM service to create manna bags
MO’ MANNA on MARCH 18 is a Lenten service project of the St. George’s Outreach Committee. Your family’s participation will ensure that manna will be available for the life journey of those in need. Please join us!

Floral Guild Update

We have received only a few notifications through Sign Up Genius for flower memorials this year. Because we are currently in the process of bringing on a new parish secretary, I will be taking over flower scheduling, at least in the short term. Could you please email me at if you want to sign up to have flowers placed on any or all of the altars this year? Please note this is a new email address. The cost of flower memorials remains the same as in past years, $45 for the main altar and $35 for St. George’s; payments can be submitted to the office.
The following dates/altars are unavailable for flowers this year:
February 18 through April 1 (Lent through Easter Sunday)
July 1 (main)
September 12 (main)
November 4 (main)
December 2 (main)
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks so much,
Susan LaBrake
