October 4, 2017
St. George's mission is to share together God's work in our lives through liturgy and sacrament, through joyous and caring fellowship, and through courageous and compassionate engagement with the world.
A Prayer after the Las Vegas Losses:

Lord, comfort the broken hearted, the injured and the fearful. Receive these 59 innocents souls into your kingdom. May our eyes remain open in the face of the this tragedy. May we discover the courage to work to prevent more blood shed and suffering. May sorrow bond us, not divide us. Amen

 In Faith,
 Barbara

Getting to Know You!

As we begin another year of parish services and unforgettable events we have an opportunity to get to know each other better. One helpful way to introduce ourselves as long-time parishioners, newcomers and Pastor Barbara… is to wear a name tag when we are at St. George's. Starting this week name tag blanks and pens will be available. Look for the yellow sign and sample name tag on the sofa table in Jerusalem Hall …and thank you! For you enjoyment click here :)

2018 STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN

This year’s stewardship campaign will begin on Sunday, September 17. Mary Hobart has graciously agreed to chair this year’s campaign. Please pr ayerfully consider the benefits and blessings that come with being a part of this faith community and your role in ensuring its continuation especially during this time of transition. Over the next week, you will be receiving a letter from Mary along with the form to make your pledge for the next fiscal year. The culmination of this year’s campaign will be commitment Sunday on October 15. If you do not receive a letter and form by September 24, please contact Kelly Gallagher, Chris Butto, Steve Krouse or Mary Hobart to obtain a form for this year’s pledge. We hope this year’s campaign will continue the tradition of continuing support, faith and outreach, established by the congregation of St. George’s Church.

Yours truly,
The Stewardship Committee

On Saturday November 4 th and 18 th , 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. This year we are going to divide our traditional fall clean up day into two, as we have a lot to do this fall!

On November 4 th I would like to remove two small dead/dying trees from the church grounds – the acer in the bed by the Darby Road entrance, and the cherry tree growing near the massive holly on the corner of the parking lot and Sulgrave Ave. I would also like to do some hedge trimming of a couple of yew and Japanese holly bushes.

On November 18 th I would like us to tackle the Rectory courtyard garden, which has become very overgrown. There are some saplings to take down but most of the work will involve pulling down and digging up vines, and chopping up the yard waste so that it can be disposed of.

I will provide coffee and doughnuts on both occasions, but we will need yard waste bags, trash cans for yard waste if you have them, extension cords for power tools, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, clippers, gardening gloves, pole saws etc.

There will be assign up sheet in the dining hall starting this Sunday, but please feel free to email me on sfarnsworth@dca.net or phone me on 610-446-6226 if you have any questions.

Let’s help fill the shelves.

Come on out to the annual Trunk or Treat at St. George's Episcopal Church. It is a fun and safe way for the kids to celebrate Halloween.

4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
St. George's Parking Lot

Decorate your trunk or hatch and hand out treats to ghouls and goblins big and small. There will be treats, face-painting, music, a prize for best-decorated trunk, and fun for all. For more information, contact Vicki Strickland at  vickip73@gmail.com   and be on the lookout for a sign-up sheet in Jerusalem Hall.

NOTES FROM LOU CAROL

  •  The Children's Choir will rehearse this Sunday in Jerusalem Hall during coffee hour in preparation for their singing next Sunday, Oct. 15. They are preparing "In my life, Lord, be glorified." All children ages 4-14 are welcome to join in.

  • The choir has a lot of fun learning a variety of music of many different styles and time periods, and I do take suggestions for repertoire from all. Our 4 professional singers are all returning to sing at St. George's, and they will provide excellent support and continuity, along with our excellent regular volunteers. Come give us a try, and perhaps commit to a few Sundays.

Please contact Lou Carol Fix at LCFix@moravian.edu with any questions or need more information.
Outreach Opportunity
Good Works Workday in Phoenixville
Saturday, October 14, 2017

Good Works, Inc. is a Christian non-profit organization which exists to improve the living conditions of low-income families in Chester County. Services to make homes drier, safer, and warmer are offered at no cost – with the help of volunteers like us.

St. George’s Outreach Committee is recruiting a team of eight to twelve people for our next Good Works Day in Phoenixville on Saturday, October 14. We will carpool from church at 7:45 am and will be back around 4 p.m. Building skills are a plus, but not required – you’ll be assigned a task that matches your ability and our team be guided by a Good Works leader throughout the workday.

A sign-up sheet and list of past St. George volunteers is on the Outreach Bulletin Board – talk to any of them for first-hand information about their Good Works experience. If you can help on October 14, please sign up or e-mail Eileen Kammerer at eileen_421@yahoo.com
