September 5, 2018 - Walking Together in Faith
Empathy - St. Teresa of Calcutta
Dear St. Isidore School,

I hope that the beginning of the school year is off to a great start and that you enjoyed the extra time with your family this past long weekend. In keeping with our discussion regarding “Things we cannot change,” the third idea in the series is that “pain is a part of life”. We need to remember that our God is loving, forgiving and always generous. God is near and caring. He challenges us to be our best, to stretch and to grow. We remember that our God walks with us, even carries us, when we are weak, and He always gives us the strength we need. How easy it is, especially when facing trials and tribulations, to forget who our God is and that through Him all things are possible. More than any other time, we must give compassion and comfort to those in pain especially those experiencing the loss of a loved one.

Golf Classic: Looking forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming Golf Classic. Many thanks to our chairperson, Michelle Czarnik. She is amazing! We still have room for some golfers. The day will end with a fabulous cocktail hour and dinner in the Diablo dining room. We would love to see our school parents come and enjoy an evening out.  Click here for tickets for either the golf or dinner.

Picture Days:  Our official school picture day was today. If you missed picture day, we do have a retake day on Tuesday, October 9. We would love for all school families to participate in the parish directory. If you missed the chance over the summer to take your family photo there is still time. Any family who participates in the directory will receive two pep hours. Please click here for more info on our “Parish Photo Directory”.

Drama : There are still a few spaces still available for “The Jungle Book” and registration is now open for the Gr. 4-8 “The Odyssey” drama production. Please see the school website for more details.

Bingo Night : Sadly, we did not have enough RSVP’s for our Bingo Night. It has been Cancelled this Friday. We will try to have another one in October.

Challenge Success:  We will have a Parent Meeting hosted by Challenge Success . They will discuss the obstacles that teens face in this day and age having to balance all of the areas in their busy lives. This will be an informative meeting and we hope you attend. We invite all parents with children in grades five and up, sorry no students. All parents who attend will receive two PEP hours for attendance. We will meet in the Bensen Gym from 6:30-8:00 PM. For more information, please contact Michelle Devine at mdevine@stisidore.org

Schoology and MySchoolAnywhere : Please sign up for your Schoology account if you have not done so already. For more information, please see below. MySchoolAnywhere is our online directory. We need ALL families to update and/or add contact information, which will allow other families to contact you. Please use the links below, in the Communications Corner section, to add and/or update your information.

Safety Update:  As promised at Back to School Nights, we will keep you posted on the safety updates and changes we are making. We were able to obtain a fire hose, which we will use in pieces, as tool to block the open hinge arm on top of all doorways. These pieces will be used to not allow entry from the outside of the door. We have received quotes for a perimeter gate/fence as well as the magnetic lock system for our front gate and expect to receive more next week. The magnetic locking front gate will help secure entry into the office, student restrooms and other parts of the school, as all other outside classroom doors on campus are locked and secured at all times. We will discuss all options with Father Moran when he returns at the end of the month.

Have a great week.

Sincerely,
Maria Ward

Art Room News
Beginning this year, St. Isidore School artists and families will have the opportunity to use the online student art gallery, Artsonia , which will display completed artwork from Miss Moore's Art class! Artsonia is the largest online collection of K-12 student work, with over millions of artworks being shown. Artsonia manages school art galleries in a safe and educational manner, developing students' pride and self-esteem through involving parents and relatives in their student's art education. Families can also purchase items with your child's artwork on it such as t-shirts, phone cases, greeting cards, ornaments, etc. and 20% of your purchase goes towards art supplies for the SIS Art Program! In order to use Artsonia, parents must give permission for their child's artwork to be viewable.  Please look out for an email from the Artsonia website, explaining how to activate your child's account.  This is completely optional, but a great way to share your child's creative talents with family and friends! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Miss Moore at  jmoore@stisidore.org

Scrip
T hank you St. Isidore's families for the BIG Scrip turnout! We are off to a fantastic start! Now that everyone is Back To School, remember those starving students when filling out your Scrip order. Chipotle, In-N-Out, Subway and Panera are great cards to keep handy for those emergency food runs. And, to give our families even more choices we have added  Noah's Bagels  and  Taco Bell  in $10 increments.   This week we are pleased to welcome back  Chevron  to our scrip order form. We have Chevron at $50 and $100 increments and each purchase gives back a 1% rebate to our school. We love to hear your ideas and suggestions to make our Scrip Program even better so if you don't see a vendor you really LOVE, reach out to Rory Motas at  rmotas@stisidore.org and maybe she can add that vendor. As always, thank you for supporting St. Isidore School through your purchase of SCRIP.
