In the Wilderness with Jesus

Temptation 1: "Turn These Stones to Bread"

Matthew 4:1-11
Deuteronomy 8:1-5
Signs of Lent
The season of Lent is a time of reflection and soul searching. It has been a time of preparation for the celebration of Easter since the earliest days of the church. This tradition with ancient roots is designed as a personal call to repentance, an invitation to reorder our lives and a time to be intentional about our Christian walk.

Our Lenten theme this year is of “Road Signs” and how their messages apply to our life as Jesus Followers. Each Wed., beginning Feb.14 , until Resurrection Sunday pm April 1 will focus on the following signs: U-Turn, Stop, Merge, Yield, One Way, Dead End, Road Narrows, Food, Cross Road, Road Work Ahead.

It's Time to Head to Haiti Again!
Our sister church in Ouanaminthe, Haiti is already so excited about hosting another team from St. John's on July 21-28! We'll be helping with VBS for the church kids and the surrounding community, and work on some other small projects around the church. If you would like more info about being part of the team, stop by our table in the Community Room on Sunday, March 4, or contact [email protected] or Tim Boettcher at [email protected]. This will be a great team for anyone, especially middle and high schoolers, college students and young adults. We promise, you will be blessed on this trip!
Lenten Offerings for “Love India”
The beneficiary of this year’s Lenten offerings will again be “Love India”. This
effort undertaken, by St. John’s School, provides the funding to sponsor nine
needy children (one per grade) in the Bangalore Community-based Childcare
program of India Transformed! With this sponsorship, each child receives
nourishing meals, health care, a Christian education and encouragement by caring
adults who share the love of Jesus. In addition, you can collect your spare change throughout the Lenten season and return it when they are gathered on March 21. The nickels, dimes and quarters that may seem like small change to us can make a huge difference in the life of a child in India. Thank you for your support!

Join the Discussion ...

Can the St. John’s/Renewal Communities be more intentional in forming relationships as we work together to Connect/Neighbor/Serve?

Based on the book  Why Nobody Wants To Go To Church Anymore  by Thom and Joani Schultz, we'll discuss ways we can help change this trend through simple acts of love.

Why?   To make the church an irresistible place to be for ALL people!

How?  By discussing ways to show:

  • Radical Hospitality
  • Openness in discussing important topics of today in an atmosphere of Christian love
  • Show genuine humility
  • Recognize how God is Working

When?   Six evenings 6:00-7:30pm, Thursday evenings  March 15 and 22 and April 5, 12, 19 and 26. We'll be meeting in the Community Room.
