Dear (Contact First Name),

Important Calendar Updates:
There will be no afternoon SLED on Wednesday, November 25th.  All students must be picked up at 12:00 Dismissal.

The PK/K information night tomorrow has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.  Please stay tuned for information on when that meeting will be rescheduled.

Parent Volunteer Reminder:
Thank you to all the parents who faithfully volunteer to chaperone field trips, work in the classrooms, and support school and CYO activities. We could not offer our students these fun and enriching activities without your help. I feel an important need to remind our community about confidentiality, discretion, and kindness as parents participate in our school activities. As a volunteer, you are in an important position with close access to students. I have expectations of privacy and confidentiality of all parent volunteers. You will observe behavior of students who are not your own children in the course of your assistance. If you are concerned as a parent volunteer, you should share your concern with the teacher or with me and no one else. Parent volunteers absolutely should not be negatively discussing students who are not their own children with other parents. This is hurtful and damaging to our community. We work hard to teach our students not to engage in hurtful gossiping about each other because it is a form of bullying, and I hold even higher expectations of adults in this regard. Please be role models and help set a respectful and positive standard of behavior for our community. Thanks!

Popcorn Palace Fundraiser:
Our popular popcorn fundraiser began on Monday!  Popcorn Palace delivers fresh, quality popcorn that is popped fresh when we order.  We are happy to offer this fundraiser once again this year just in time for the holidays.  This is not a mandatory fundraiser, but it is too yummy to pass up!  The flyer and order forms went home on Monday, and all popcorn orders must be turned in no later than Friday, November 13th.  All proceeds will go toward purchasing classroom resources.

Homework Club:
Our homework club is in full swing on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.  We are thankful to our middle school volunteers for offering their time to help with homework club and to our teachers, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. De La Pena and Mrs. Joseph for organizing this important after school support program.  We are happy to report that we recently earned Scholastic Dollars that enabled us to purchase some new supplies for our homework club.  We purchased five new nonfiction books, a reading comprehension resource guide and four extra sets of math fact flash cards.

Attendance Update:

It is very important that all students are at school on time
We have noticed a large number of tardies in the months of September & October.  Please remember the tardy policy in our parent handbook.  Four or more tardies in one trimester will result in a tardy detention.  Now that we have been in school for about two months, we expect that families have established morning routines and a plan for getting to school on time. Detentions will be issued in the month of November.  Please make every effort to be at school on time.

Wonderful Opportunity
St. Leander School has partnered with Eye to Eye, a national organization dedicated to empowering students who learn differently. Successful candidates for this program would benefit from high school mentors from Bishop O'Dowd High School who provide leadership, skills, and share their own experiences in school to help our young students advocate for themselves and build on their strengths as learners. These high school mentors have been specifically trained to provide support and encouragement to students with ADD/ADHD as well and a variety of language processing challenges.

We have a limited number of spaces (12 only) for students in Grades 4-7 to apply for this program. The first session will take place next Wednesday, November 4th from 3:30-4:30 in the Art Room. Sessions will take place two to three times monthly through the spring semester. The program is an art-based exploration of learning styles and support. Our students who participated last year loved it, and so did their high school mentors.

If you are interested in your child participating in this special program, please email me at lmullen@csdo.org and I will be happy to send you the registration form. There is no charge for this program-I ask only a commitment to attend all required sessions which will take place on Wednesday afternoons.

Living Rosary
Our students did a wonderful job leading our Living Rosary in the Peace Pole Garden.  All students were respectful and prayerful as we gathered together on this beautiful afternoon.

CYO News
Last Sunday, October 25th, the 7th grade Girls Volleyball Team played against Assumption in the Breast Cancer Volleyball Tournament.  They came in 2nd place!  Congratulations!
