THE GREAT 50 DAYS OF EASTER

The great fifty days of Easter is the period after Easter until the day of Pentecost (means "fifty"). During Eastertide as it is sometimes called, we mark the victory and triumph by Christ over sin and death of every kind. It has been a long-standing tradition in the Western Church to recognize this victory by omitting from the Sunday liturgy the general confession of sin. Obviously, we don't stop sinning during this period but this is the way the transformation of sin to righteousness is marked liturgically. One is encouraged to deal with personal sin that occurs during this time by private confession. For more grievous sins the rite for "The Reconciliation of a Penitent" is available for confession and absolution from a priest. Please let Fr. Carey know if you need this rite of the Church.
Festival of the Senses

ARmusica returns to St. Luke's, Tuesday, May 9th, at 7:00 p.m.  Julie Cheek, piano, will be joined on stage by Andrew Irvin, violin.   They have planned a beautiful Spring program for you featuring the Brahms G Major Sonata for Violin and Piano. It is a magical work full of graceful tenderness, nobility, bursting intensity and sacred repose with a wealth of cyclic interconnections. The program will also feature Boat on the Ocean by Maurice Ravel; Salute D'Amour, Chanson De Matin, and Chanson De Nuit by Edward Elgar.  This is the final concert this season for Festival of the Senses.  Admission is free and open to the public.   There will be a Meet-The-Artists reception following the concert.   For more information, please contact the church office at 501-753-4281.
