STEWARDSHIP COMMITMENT SUNDAY
The Stewardship Team is grateful for your commitment to the 2017 Stewardship Campaign: ALL IN! and capital campaign Project St. Mark's: The Sequel! (Information on both campaigns is below.) If possible, please return your pledge cards this Sunday, either by placing them in the offering plate or by bringing/mailing them to the church office. This will help church leadership determine an estimated budget, as well as facility planning, for next year. Extra 2017 stewardship packets are available in Garton Hall or from the church office. We recognize that some of you may need more time for discernment regarding pledges, and are grateful for pledges received through the fall and beyond. If you have already returned your pledge cards, thank you!

Pledge information remains confidential in the finance office, and can be revised at any time. Your pledge makes a difference, regardless of size. Thank you for spirit of generosity, and for being All In with St. Mark's!

2017 STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN: ALL IN!
We are celebrating the great things that are happening in the St. Mark's community. At the same time, we are naming goals and needs for the year ahead that will help us be "All In" as we strive to fully live as "....an inclusive community bringing Christ-like love, healing and hope to all." Your financial commitment to the annual budget helps to support and grow ministries inside our building and beyond: mission outreach, worship, hospitality, and opportunities for all ages to grow spiritually and in community. As of October 17th, 58 pledge cards had been returned, totaling $252,740. (2017 Stewardship Campaign Goal is $660,000.)

PROJECT ST. MARK'S: THE SEQUEL
The Stewardship Team also invites you to be a part of "Project St. Mark's: The Sequel." The initial "Project St. Mark's" capital campaign began in 2013, and addressed important building needs (replacing deteriorating roofing, lighting, carpet, and adding a covered drop-off area and improved accessibility). "Project St. Mark's: The Sequel" is an invitation to be part of a two-year pledge campaign to erase the remaining debt (from additional repair/construction costs and pledges that could not be fulfilled), to enable the church to repave the parking lot (as the potholes grow wider and deeper) and to explore making some needed updates in the kitchen. As of October 17th, 42 pledge cards had been returned, totaling $102,220. (Project St. Mark's: The Sequel Campaign Goal is $275,000).

If you have questions, or would like more information, please contact the church office or members of the Stewardship Team (Andy Cron, Deb Davis, Cyrilla Helm, Charlie Nelms, Kevin Theile, Jimmy Moore, Mary Beth Morgan).

"PILGRIMS," 9:15am
The Pilgrims meet at 9:15am in Room 13. Come join us for a series entitled THE OLD TESTAMENT. All are welcome to attend at any point in the series!

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 23rd:
"From King Solomon to Preclassical Prophecy" (1Kings 3 - 2Kings 17) Lecture #17
Prof. Amy-Jill Levine - Vanderbilt University Divinity School

According to the biblical tradition, Solomon was a spectacular king. His court becomes a center of wisdom and learning. Solomon is so wise that the biblical tradition attributes to him wisdom literature.

However, on the negative side Solomon's rule is marked by corv'ees (the extrication of unpaid labor from the population). He creates an overextended economy marked by the importation of luxury items.

Come join us for the lecture and the resulting discussion.

"NOMADS," 9:15am
During October and November, the Nomads adult Sunday School class will discuss The Road to Character by syndicated columnist David Brooks. Using a series of biographical essays of noteworthy individuals, this bestselling book focuses on the deeper values that should inform our lives. Blending psychology, politics, spirituality, and confessional, The Road to Character provides an opportunity for us to rethink our priorities, and strive to build richer inner lives.

Come to Room 10 and join these Sunday morning discussions with the Nomads.  All are welcome to join in, even without reading the text!

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
"BIBLE BANTER," 9:30am
The Bible Banter Adult Sunday School class meets in Room 11 each Sunday morning from 9:30am-10:15am. The class uses the Scripture text for the morning's sermon as a discussion-starter.

We look at the passage in its larger context, and sometimes explore a bit of Bible-writing history. We offer some thoughts on what the morning's sermon might look like, based on the Scripture the pastor has selected. We leave time to discuss implications of the Scripture for our own lives, and often even delve into topics far afield of the morning's original topic. You are invited to bring some breakfast goodies into Room 11 and join the conversation.
HURRICANE MATTHEW RELIEF EFFORTS

If you can help, checks can be made out to St. Mark's and put in the offering plate or sent to the church office. Please put in the memo UMCOR Advance #982450 . Assessments of need in the US following Hurricane Matthew are still being conducted.
