We are celebrating a Housewarming for Jeff & Carla Wyatt, and their granddaughters, Keelahlah (age 7) and Kyla (age 3)! Jeff, our wonderful evening custodian at St. Mark's, and his wife, Carla, are raising their granddaughters, and wanted them to have a home. Their Habitat for Humanity House has been moved from the IU campus (where it was built) to its lot, and they hope to move in the next few months. Plan to be part of the Housewarming Celebration! Listed, below, are some additional invitations and opportunities.
Jeff, Carla, and the girls will also be joining us in worship this Sunday.

"Love Gift" Towards an Air Conditioner Their Habitat house does not have air conditioning. We are collecting funds towards helping them get central air. If you would like to contribute to this "Love Gift," checks can be made out to "Mary Beth Morgan" with "Wyatt Family" in the memo line. If you wish to give cash, place it in an envelope marked "Wyatt Family". These can be brought/mailed to the church office. All the individual gifts will be combined into a cashier's check. The names of all those who contributed to the Love Gift will be shared with their family (unless you wish to be "anonymous"). Amounts of individual gifts will remain confidential.

APPALACHIA SERVICE PROJECT (ASP) CAR WASH
Please support ASP as they prepare to travel to Appalachia next summer and serve with others through home reconstruction and repair. Building supplies and travel expenses are part of the costs that ASP folks need to fund. Cars are washed at St. Mark's by ASP volunteers while you are in church. Your donations to support ASP make homes warmer, safer, and drier for families in need are very much appreciated.

Project St. Mark's: The Sequel!
Your financial contributions to the
All IN! Stewardship Campaign support the annual budget helps to fund and grow ministries inside our building and beyond, helping us live our mission of being "....an inclusive community bringing Christ-like love, healing and hope to all." As of October 25th, 86 pledge cards had been returned, totaling $359,604.50 (2017 Stewardship Campaign Goal is $660,000).
Project St. Mark's: The Sequel" is an invitation to be part of a two-year pledge campaign to erase the remaining debt from the original Project St. Mark's (from additional repair/construction costs and pledges that could not be fulfilled), to enable the church to repave the parking lot, and to explore making some needed updates in the kitchen. As of October 25th, 64 pledge cards had been returned, totaling $149,150 (Project St. Mark's: The Sequel Campaign Goal is $275,000).
We deeply appreciate your commitment, and your pledges to both campaigns. If you have already returned your pledge cards, or are doing so soon, thank you! This will help church leadership determine an estimated budget, as well as facility planning, for next year.
We recognize that some of you may need more time for discernment regarding pledges, and are grateful for pledges received through the fall and beyond. Stewardship packets are available in Garton Hall and in the church office. These can be returned anytime in the offering plate or to the church office.

On 5th Sundays, children and youth Sunday School classes do not meet, as we invite families to worship together and for all ages to participate in worship leadership. (Childcare is available in Room 26 for children in preschool-3

grade during worship, as an option.)
While our young people are welcome to be a part of worship leadership any Sunday, we especially extend to all children and youth a special invitation to participate on Sanctuary Sunday. There are many ways to lead worship: greet people & hand out bulletins, be an acolyte who lights our candles, read the scripture, offer a prayer or lead the call to worship, share your talent-musically or artistically. The Bible Banter Adult Sunday School class meets in Room 11 each Sunday morning from 9:30am-10:15am. The class uses the Scripture text for the morning's sermon as a discussion-starter.
We look at the passage in its larger context, and sometimes explore a bit of Bible-writing history. We offer some thoughts on what the morning's sermon might look like, based on the Scripture the pastor has selected. We leave time to discuss implications of the Scripture for our own lives, and often even delve into topics far afield of the morning's original topic. You are invited to bring some breakfast goodies into Room 11 and join the conversation.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) acted quickly in response to the destruction and death caused by Hurricane Matthew in the Caribbean, notably in Haiti, immediately addressing the need for clean drinking water to prevent the spread of cholera. HISTORY WALK
Once a month the Bloomington Restorations organization holds an open house at the Hinkle-Garton Farmstead on East 10th St. Daisy Hinkle Garton, a former member of St. Mark's, was born on the farmstead in 1908. October 29th we are going to remember Daisy & her generous stewardship to our church. We will start at 1:30pm in Garton Hall for a short review of Daisy's life & a second look at the paintings of her house & barn. Then we will head for the homestead. We will lead those who want to walk on an easy 15 minute route which includes the quiet, grassy paths along the "back 40" around the barn & up to the home. OVERNIGHT BACKPACKING TRIP
Inspired by our study of "Backpacking with the Saints" this last spring, several members of St. Mark's want to invite others to join a short backpacking trip into the nearby Deam Wilderness. Those who can hike during the day on Friday will stake out the selected camp site about 1.5 miles along the Sycamore Loop Trail. Others can carpool from St. Mark's at 5:00pm to drive to the Fire Tower where they will be led to the site as the sun sets. After sharing a dinner cooked with some of the best of the tasty freeze-dried ingredients now available for serious backpackers, the group will relax around the campfire, directing the IU BB team to victory over Kansas by way of radio. We will also have time to share wilderness stories & lessons. After breakfast of coffee, eggs & pre-fried bacon, the group will break camp & backpack to the Fire Tower. Those who want more hiking can stop at the Blackwell Horse Camp to join the geology hike that will start at 9:00 am. Backpackers will each need to carry all their own camping gear plus water, beverages & snacks. FROG POND RIDGE GEOLOGY HIKE
Join the St. Mark's hikers for a 4.6 mile geology hike into the Deam Wilderness. The carpooling will leave St. Mark's at 8:30 am. Dave Simcox will lead us from the east end of the Blackwell Horse Camp at 9:00am to trails headed north to see the unusual Karst features & limestone outcroppings of the Mt Carmel & Heltonsville Faults. The hike will also stop at the remnants of a settler homestead & cemetery. Since we will cross several small streams, good boots are highly recommended. So are water bottles.
