Prayer Vigil St. Martin's traditional Prayer Vigil begins following the Maundy Thursday liturgy on Thursday, April 17, 2014 and concludes at 8:30 a.m. on Good Friday. The prayer vigil is maintained by parishioners who volunteer to come to the church at a specific time to spend an hour in prayer with Jesus, in response to His request of His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane: "So, could you not watch with me one hour?" (Matt 26:40). A sign-up sheet is available outside of the Parlor for those who wish to participate. For those in need of prayer, Prayer Request forms are available in the Narthex-please place your completed Prayer Request in the wooden box on the table on the right as you exit the church. If you need further information, please contact the Parish Office at 704-376-8441 or [email protected].

The Search Committee We have been asked by some of our parish members what should they do if they know of a great candidate. If you do, please direct them to the diocesan website (www.dionc.org) where they can learn more about St. Martin's and express their interest in the position. Your continued prayers are asked as your committee continues in this discernment process.

On Our Way Rejoicing
Some time ago, I raised the hope of organizing a class on planning for the end of earthly life. Things like planning your funeral, selecting a funeral home, making a will, providing stability and peace of mind for those who will come after you including your church. In the season of Easter we will meet and address all these issues and more. If you are interested in taking all or part of this class, please contact the office and we we have a list of seven or more we will find a common time to meet and go from there.Becky Michelfelder+

Local restaurants provide the meals at no cost as gifts back to the community. The money collected will go to support Second Helping and the Community Culinary School of Charlotte.

Opportunities for Ministries

Local Mission Project - Mercy Bags
Have you ever walked or driven by a person in need and often wondered what to do? Mercy bags are bags you can keep in your car to give to someone who may be in need. You may place in the bags items such as a bottle of water, travel size items of toiletries, socks, imperishable food such as peanut butter crackers, granola or protein bars; easy open food cans (tuna, chicken, fruit), and plastic dinnerware. You may also place a prayer or Scripture passage and basic information on where help is available. People in need frequently stop by the church looking for help. If you are able, please make a few extra to leave for the office staff to distribute. Questions? Please contact Angie Forde at 704-340-4543 or [email protected].

Mission Trip to El Hogar - Current Needs
On April 5th and April 13th, the mission team will be collecting the following items for the trip to Honduras:
- Small jeans for boys - sizes 6, 8, 10
- Underwear and/or boxers for teenage boys - sizes 12, 14, 16
- Dark socks for boys
- Flip flops - size 5 and smaller
- Toothpaste
- Deodorant
- Bar Soap
If you prefer to contribute financially, we will put your funds to use in one of three ways: taking a group of children out for lunch one day, sponsoring a meal one night, or buying groceries for a desperately poor family of one of El Hogar's students.

Garden Tour Volunteers A few volunteers are needed to host the Mint Museum Garden Tour at St. Martin's. We were pleased to be asked to be one of the gardens featured on the Mint's tour this year and would like to offer St. Martin's hospitality to our visitors on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. We have the following shifts available: Saturday 10:00 am-1:00 pm, Saturday 1:00 pm-4:00pm, and Sunday 1:00 pm-4:00 pm. Volunteers are needed simply to greet visitors and offer a handout about the garden. We would particularly like to ask for the help of the men of St. Martin's since the tour coincides with the Women's Retreat. Please contact Paula Lombardi at
[email protected] to volunteer.

The Office will be closed Monday, April 21st.

Calendar Update - We've Upgraded
If you have added something to the church calendar prior to January 2014 for an event taking place anytime post-January 2014, please contact the office to verify that it is still on the calendar. Our old calendar program frequently "forgot" to print out many events and we want to make sure that we finally have it right now that we have a good calendar program.
Thank you.
