Immigrant Justice

Justin Remer-Thamert is Program Director of the New Mexico Faith Coalition for Immigrant Justice. He will talk about his organization and the work they are doing with the New Mexico Conference of Churches in response to immigrant children arriving from Central America - and how we can be involved. In conjunction with the adult forum Sunday, a group of social justice activists will be having a "Para los Ninos" fundraiser sale directed to the current Central America Migrant crisis, specifically the children.  With your help we can continue helping fund low-bono lawyers to work their cases.  We are offering Peruvian handcrafted (folk art) ornaments donated to us for this cause.

Name Tags

Please wear a name tag throughout September to help Fr. Doug get to know us (and help us all - newcomers and long-timers - get to know one another a bit better). Thanks

Rev. Doug Travis

The Reverend Doug Travis will be serving as Priest and Pastor at St Michael and All Angels. He will be here every Sunday and most Mondays throughout the fall. He will have office hours from 9:00 - 2:00 on Mondays and welcomes anyone who wants to talk to him to make an appointment during those hours - please call or email [email protected] to make an appointment.
All-Angels Day School

All Angels Episcopal Day School has had a great start to the new school year!  We had a successful open house on August 28th where families and school staff gathered together.  Students were able to show off their school to their parents and eat delicious Papa John's pizza that was donated to the school in the parish hall.  Thank you Papa John's!  We had a profitable Book Fair this month which provided funds for our school to purchase books in order to support our classrooms.  We are planning for our upcoming Fall Bake Sale on Sunday, October 26th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in the parish hall.  Items will include baked goods, a hot chocolate bar, Boar's Head hams, and painted pumpkins.  We hope to see you there and thank all of you for your continued support of our wonderful school that we are so proud of here at All Angels!

High Scorers

St. Michael's seniors will be gathering again after the summer break for our regular monthly potluck lunches.  They take place on the second Thursday of the month. We meet in the church hall at 12 noon, and simply enjoy a social hour or two together.  If you haven't been to a High Scorers lunch, cone and give it a try; we always have a good time.  If transportation is a problem for you, call John McNeil on 217 3759.  See you there!

Newcomer Potluck
September 18

All those who feel they are new to St. Michael's are invited to a potluck dinner on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 6:00 pm.  It will be an informal evening of fellowship to greet newcomers and give us chance to know one another.   Bring a food item to share for dinner.  There will be a round table discussion of faith and the church.  Questions may be directed to David Martin. 505 345-8147 ext 121 or [email protected]

Grief Work w/ Carolyn Metzler

September 24 and 25, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Pavilion

For people who are grieving, especially those who are struggling with losses at St Michael's in recent years, who feel they have unfinished business around grief and loss. Each evening will follow a similar process - all are welcome at either or both gatherings

Celebration of Michaelmas
September 28

We will adorn the church with the angels on Friday, September 26 so bring your angels anytime before then.

The entire parish will gather for a Potluck Brunch between the 9:00 and 11:15 services on September 28 to celebrate the Feast Day of our patron saint.  All classes for youth and adults will be on hiatus that day so everyone can join in the festivities.  Bring a food item to share with our St. Michael's family as we celebrate all the amazing gifts we have been given.

Casa San Miguel

Smith Foods is having a case/lot sale, if you shop at Smith's and would like to help the food pantry, we could use some spaghetti sauce. We simply have not gotten any from Roadrunner for awhile.

Also, no matter where you shop, we always need toiletries such as soap, shampoo and toothpaste. Thank you for thinking of us and the people who rely on our church.

Community Connections

Community Connections is collecting warm clothing during the month of September on all Sundays for our adopted school, La Luz Elementary. Please no logos or pictures on the garment. Keep on knitting/crocheting hats and scarves, we will collect those items the last Sunday in September and the first Sunday in October. Any and all wear is needed, so if you have anything you would like to donate in September, it will be most appreciated. Also, if you would like to give cash, we have a designated shopper ready to go. Any questions, please contact Rhoda Parker at 821-1992 or Kathy Poorbaugh at 884-3723.

Casa Q

Casa Q is a transitional living facility for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) teenagers at risk of or experiencing homelessness.  The facility will open in late fall or early winter pending licensure by the state.  Volunteers are needed in many areas of the organization.  Casa Q staff will be at St. Michael's on Saturday, September 27, to help you get involved.  For more information contact Chuck Jones or show up on September 27.

United Thank Offering
A priceless gift and an act of selflessness

Use your United Thank Offering "little blue box" as a daily reminder to give thanks for each of our many blessings.   We might sing or dance our prayers, we might kneel, sit, stand or even lie down, but no matter how we do it we are called to pray. An outward and visible sign of our thankfulness is the little blue box into which our coins are placed to accompany our daily prayers. Next week, on Michaelmas Sunday, we ask you to return your UTO box, filled with your coins of blessings and thanks. Every penny, from every Episcopal Church, will go towards the furtherance of God's mission in the world.   If you will be away on that Sunday, you may bring your UTO box any Sunday before or after Michaelmas Sunday. There are United Thank Offering envelopes in the card rack if you would like to use them for a personal check. There will be baskets available in the Narthex into which you may deposit your United Thank Offering "little blue box".
