Sermon
The Rev. Deacon Judith Jenkins

All I know is:  That I was blind and now I see!
Questions and more questions:
Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parent, that he was born blind?
Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?
How were your eyes opened?
Where is he? (the one who sent you to the pool of Siloam?)
How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?
What do you say about him?  It was your eyes he opened.
Is this your son, who you say was born blind?  How then does he now see?
How did he open your eyes?
Why do you want to hear it again?  Do you also want to become his disciples?
You were born entirely in sins, and are you trying to teach us?
And the question that spoke to me:  Surely we are not blind, are we?

Marriage Equality Letter

The Vestry, Wardens, and Clergy have sent a letter in response to Bishop Vono's pastoral letter from February 6, 2014. The letter requests that the Bishop change his position and modify the same-sex blessing to allow clergy to officiate at same-sex marriages and sign same-sex marriage licenses as many other dioceses in marriage equality states have done. You can read the Bishop's pastoral letter here and the response from the Vestry here.

There will be an opportunity for any who would like to add their signatures to the letter on Sunday April 13 following the three morning services and Live at Five.

Newcomers: Exploring the Episcopal Faith

Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm

This class is for all who are seeking to know more about our church, theology, history, and everyday practice of our faith. It serves those interested in adult Baptism, Confirmation, Reception into the Episcopal Church, or Reaffirmation of faith. It is also helpful for anyone who has transferred to our parish and serves as a refresher for those who have not explored these subjects recently. Participants who complete the course will be invited to the retreat on June 14, 2014, and Confirmation service held on June 15, 2014.

Even if you didn't make it for the Orientation or first class, there is still time to join! Classes continue on Tuesday evenings, meeting in our Parish Hall, from March 18th through May 20th, starting at 6:30 pm and ending at 8:00 pm. There will be no class on April 15th due to Holy Week. Leaders for the coursework include Clergy, Vestry members, Lay Leaders and members of the staff.

Cost of the materials booklet is approximately $10.00. A Book of Common Prayer may be purchased for $21.00 for your personal use and study.

We hope you will join us on the Newcomers: Exploring the Episcopal Faith Class faith journey whether you are new to our parish or have attended for some time. If you would like more information, please call the parish office (345-8147 ext. 111) or email office@all-angels.com.

Questions for Reflection for Week Four (Pages 100-130):

Too Cold for Waiting

"I feel we are all bound up with seeing money for personal use instead of as a tool, a commodity, a way of ensuring a better life for all people." pg. 105

How does our faith affect the way we see and use money? What difference might it make to see money the way Bp. Wolf describes?

"I am to bring good news to the poor, yet they have brought good news to me." pg. 121

What is the good news Aly receives from the people she knows in the shelters?

"Love isn't huggin' and kissin,' it's taking off your jacket in the cold weather, and Wanda lettin' me sit on her, and it's Florence keepin' me warm, and that girl givin' me her coat. God, I'll never forget any of ya. That's what love is."

Tell about a time you have experienced love in action.

United Thank Offering

Use your United Thank Offering "little blue box" as a daily reminder to give thanks for each of our many blessings.   We might sing or dance our prayers, we might kneel, sit, stand or even lie down, but no matter how we do it we are called to pray. An outward and visible sign of our thankfulness is the little blue box into which our coins are placed to accompany our daily prayers. Next week, on Palm Sunday, we ask you to return your UTO box, filled with your coins of blessings and thanks. Every penny from every Episcopal Church will go towards the furtherance of God's mission in the world.   If you will be away on Palm Sunday, you may bring your UTO box any Sunday after Palm Sunday. There are United Thank Offering envelopes in the card rack if you would like to use them for a personal check. There will be baskets available in the Parish Hall, our gathering place for Palm Sunday, and in the Narthex into which you may deposit your United Thank Offering "little blue box".

Helping Hungry Children

Once again St. Michael's is participating in the Title I project where teachers identify children who might not have enough food over the weekend, and offer a bag of healthy snacks to take home on Fridays. St. Michael's is responsible for several hundred individual sized servings of dried fruit. If you could donate a few mini-boxes of raisins or other fruit snacks, please get them St. Michael's by Saturday April 12. There will be a bin in the Parish Hall for this purpose. And if you would like to help put the bags together, please join us at the Palm Saturday family worship and craft event, at St. Chad's, at 4pm. Call Francesca (459-4250) or talk to Rev. Kristin for more details.

St. Martin's Breakfast

Look for the sign up sheet in the Parish Hall this Sunday to choose your selection of food for the homeless. We will be serving approximately 300 very hungry people on Sunday, April 13. Food will be picked up Saturday, April 12, in the Parish Hall. Cash donations to purchase plates, sugar, cream, etc., would be appreciated. Thanks to all of you for your continued support of this ministry.

Casa San Miguel

We have a continuing need for personal hygiene items since these cannot be purchased with food stamps.  If you are considering buying something to donate to the pantry, consider soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and even toilet paper.  All are welcome and all are needed.

Urban Way of the Cross

Friday, April 18 at 9:00 am

Join people from various Christian congregations on a pilgrimage through downtown Albuqueruqe's community of need and mercy, pain and hope, the places where Christ is being crucified in our world today. Our walk will link us to Jesus' walk with those on the margins: neglected children, the homeless, the elderly, the poor, and the immigrant. As we share in the sorrow and pain, we will also experience the joy and hope marking the places where Christ's crossbeam is being carried and His brow wiped by people serving those in deep need. Our journey will begin and end at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper St NW; all are welcome to a closing reception at the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall.

Good Friday Pilgrimage

Friday, April 18 at 6:00 am

As the culmination of your Lenten journey, please consider joining with your brothers and sisters in Christ who will make a Good Friday pilgrimage to El Santuario de Chimayo.  Located north of Santa Fe, El Santuario de Chimayo is a small adobe church built in 1816 that embodies the history, culture, and faith of the people of northern New Mexico.   The shrine is known for its curative powers, and for over 200 years, pilgrims have rubbed themselves with the Tierra Bendita ("Holy Dirt") found in a small room there or have taken it back to others who have not been able to make the pilgrimage.

In preparation for this journey, pilgrims are encouraged to attend two meetings in Albuquerque (one on March 30, and the second on April 6) that will focus on the concepts of journey and pilgrimage as well as on Hispanic spirituality. On Good Friday, pilgrims will meet at a central point in Albuquerque at 6:00 am and will carpool to the church in Namb (located approximately eight miles from Chimayo). Pilgrims may choose to walk from there or to drive to the Penitent Crosslocated approximately 1 miles from Chimayo. The Good Friday Liturgy will be celebrated at the Penitent Cross, and a Service of Healing with oil and Tierra Bendita will be held at El Santuario de Chimayo. A van containing water and first aid provisions will accompany pilgrims on their journey. Pilgrims will return to Albuquerque by approximately 6:00 pm. Carpool drivers are needed.

For more information about this pilgrimage, including the preparatory meetings, please contact Deacon Patty Soukup at psoukup@dioceserg.org or at 505-881-0636. Please respond ASAP in order to be included in the preparatory meetings.
