Directories

The photo directories have arrived. If your picture is in the directory, you get a copy.  If not, you will have to wait till all are handed out and we can determine how many extras we may have. To pick up your directory: they are stacked, alphabetically on the counter in the front office. Find your copy. Leave the stacks intact. Then cross off your name from the list.

Library Update

The church library is open weekdays during office hours for parish members who wish to browse or check out books. The library is also open on Sunday after services. We especially encourage members to stop by at this time. Please defer to previously scheduled ministry meetings in the library, when necessary.

Hospitality Team

The Hospitality Team needs to find a new coordinator for "First Sunday Hospitality". This would involve being on hand in the parish hall from 8:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. for receiving and setting out food donations, and after the late service for serving and cleanup. We have two people serving between the 9 a.m. and the 11:15 a.m. services, but both are choir members and need someone to be in charge overall. Interested? Call Margaret Gant at 822-1412 or Linda Towle at 414-4742 for more information.

Services of Prayer

On Friday, October 17 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, the Discernment Guild will host a simple service of readings, prayers, candlelight and silence. Join us at the end of the week to pause and reflect on God's goodness.

This Sunday, October 19, we will offer healing prayer at each of the morning services.

All Saints/Dia de los Muertos

The ofrenda/altar will be set up Saturday, October 23 and remain in place through Sunday, November 2. There are several options for providing your photos of family and friends and images/icons of saints for the ofrenda. You can place them:

October 23, 11 - 12:30

(come at 9:30, help set up ofrenda)

Sundays, October 24 or November 2

between services

October 25 - October 31

when the church is openPlease label your photos with your name and phone number. If you like, attach a short statement identifying the person(s) in the photo.

The candle trays will be set up in front of the altar on November 2. You can light and place candles before/after services and at suggested times during the services.

While the ofrenda is in place, please take a few moments to look at the pictures whenever you are at church. It is a moving tribute to the communion of saints that are connected in some fashion to the St. Michael's family.

All-Angels Bake Sale

It's time again for All Angels Bake Sale and Boo Extravaganza on Sunday, October 26, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. This year we will not only be selling lots of homemade pies, cakes, cookies, breads and jams, but we will have decorated pumpkins and a Hot Cocoa Bar. We will also be taking orders for Boar's Head Holiday Hams. Please come enjoy this very festive fall event! The parishioners of St. Michael's have always supported our bake sale beyond our wildest dream and we hope that this year will not be any different.
Animate:Practices

Tuesday nights September 16 - October 28, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

A series designed to animate discussion, with brief videos done by nationally known Christian speakers and writers, and beautiful participant journals for notes and doodles. Whether you are a seasoned student of Christian spiritual practice, or have never heard the term, each session will invite you to new exploration of what it means to live a Christian life.

Participant journals are $15. Kristin will facilitate these classes - it's helpful if you sign up and reserve a journal in advance by emailing [email protected], but not required.

Casa San Miguel

The Casa San Miguel Food Pantry Annual Burrito Breakfast Fundraiser will be held on Sunday, October 19.

Bereavement Support Group

The Bereavement Support Group meets the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month in the Library at 10:15. This group is a safe place to explore feelings and all are welcome. You may be suffering from a recent loss or something that happened years ago.   For the next 6 sessions, we will be reading and discussing a book by Joyce Rupp, "Praying Our Goodbyes."   You may join in at any time.  For questions, please contact Kay Veal at 899-0299/[email protected]  or Mary Anne Flannagan at 266-9268/[email protected]

Bible Study

The Bible Study on Paul's Letter to the Philippians held in the Pavilion on Sunday mornings at 10:15 will not meet for the next two weeks - Oct. 19 and Oct 26.  We will resume on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Next Week and Beyond
Search Committee Progress

What happens next?

The profile is now approved by the Diocese and posted on the church, Diocese and National sites. The Search Committee will not be able to discuss candidates or details of the process, but we will keep the parish informed as we can with our progress in the coming months. Thanks for everyone's prayers and support - we all feel and appreciate every kind thought!

United Thank Offering

Our Change, Changes Lives

The 2014 United Thank Offering Season is wrapping up.  This week St. Michael and All Angels presented a check to the Diocesan Convention for $2,275.50 that represented this congregation's offerings of thanks for our many individual blessings.  The check included the offerings presented last Palm Sunday and the offerings presented on Michaelmas Sunday last month.  Thank you all for your contributions.  All contributions from all Episcopal churches will be combined and distributed through grants to further Christ's mission in the world.  A list of the awarded grants will be published when they are finalized.

We will hold two ingivings again in 2015 just like this year, one on Palm Sunday and one on Michaelmas Sunday.  The boxes will be distributed six weeks prior to each of these Sundays.  For those of you who would like to keep a United Thank Offering "little blue box" in your home for daily thanksgiving offerings throughout the year, please take one from the card rack in the back of the Narthex.
