GRACE Gazette August 10, 2017
Now through October, we will be featuring  weekly messages regarding the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation.

The Chancellor of the University of Wittenberg, Andreas Karlstadt awarded Martin Luther his doctorate in 1512. Karlstadt was a defender of Luther, but eventually found Luther too moderate. To the issue of adoration of relics, Karlstadt urged that even priestly vestments, altar furnishings, and crucifixes distracted from a direct relationship with Christ, and he challenged the real presence of Christ in Communion. Fateful Journey
Then Judas went to the chief priests in order to betray Jesus. -Mark 14:10

Why did he do it? Often you hear in the news an account of someone who made a "fateful" decision. The decision may have been to have one too many drinks, and a horrible accident occurs. Or a decision to lie or to cheat or kill someone they love. Judas made a "fateful journey" to the authorities who would, as a result, arrest Jesus. Why he made that fateful journey we can only speculate, but we know he felt remorse. Have you ever taken a "fateful journey" that has resulted in heartache? Once a fateful journey is made there is nothing we can do to change its direction. Fortunately, there is a journey we can take to the cross. There, at the feet of Jesus, we can ask and receive His forgiveness for "fateful journeys" that have been made. With this forgiveness we are able to find the strength to move forward. Lord, guide our footsteps from 'fateful journeys" that lead us away from You and others. Amen.

To assist St. Paul members/guests with your 'spiritual diet' we are looking at starting 10 small groups (each group will have 8-10 people), to walk through the book
The Vine Speaks  by Cindy Steinbeck. This book discussion can either be 11 or 6 weeks long and is based on John 15. Books will be $5. Small groups are forming now; contact the Church Office (377-4659) if you are interested in facilitating/leading or participating in a study. We would like each group to start sometime between September 10-17th . Facilitator's will choose time/location and length (6 or 11 weeks).
