Our recent tradition has been to share the thoughts of our Vestry members regarding stewardship.  Over the next four weeks we will be sharing their thoughts with you as you prepare and pray about the St. Thomas annual stewardship campaign.

Steve and I are so grateful for the love and support the people of St. Thomas have shown us all of the many years that we have been here. It is a place of refuge for us and for so many.

We are also grateful for the many blessings that the Lord has provided to us. Most of us at St. Thomas live our lives with abundance, especially compared to so many others on the planet that struggle to merely survive. Our church cares for itself, and also for so many of those others that are in need of hope and assistance. Knowing this gives us great joy in being fully committed to tithing and supporting the church now and in the future, in any way that we can.

For us, this is one way that we can love and serve the Lord.

Stewardship means providing time, talent and, yes, funds to extend the kingdom of God.  By combining all three aspects of giving, we can expand our giving and provide an increasing capability of the Church.

St. Thomas has been our home for over 32 years and we have seen how the community of God works in all facets of our life.  Our daughter was married here, our grandchildren were baptized here and our faith has grown here through and in the support of our stewardship.  Our time giving was through participation in various organizations - vestry, choir, missionary work, Sunday school attendance and teaching, Cursillo, Daughters of the King, and Community of Hope.  Our talent has helped in hospitality and vestry leadership, DWTX council representatives, lay reading and ushering.  We strive to attain the 10% tithing and continue to support other church organizational activities.

God has blessed us and we continually praise him for his willingness to accept us as ourselves - brothers and sisters in Christ.  St Thomas is our Church home and we are ever so thankful for the opportunity for stewardship within this community of Christians and look forward to attaining a closer relationship to God.

When I think of stewardship, I think of paying-it forward for all the many  blessings that have been bestowed on Nancy and me, our family, our church  community, our wonderful country, and the entire world in which we live and  celebrate each day.  Stewardship is just one way to be thankful and  appreciative for Our Heavenly Father watching over us.

When I think of stewardship, I think about Father Chuck talking to us about  grace and that God's grace is something that doesn't have to be earned, but  rather is an invitation to ask Him to come into ourselves and by doing so we  are enabled to do His work here on Earth.  What a easy and refreshing  invitation to accept Him into our souls, and that's what Nancy and I have done  and you can do the same.

So when we say we're paying-it-forward, we're saying Our Heavenly Father has  "lit" our souls to carrying out His work here on earth and hope you will  consider doing so as well. Amen.

Respectfully submitted in His Name,

Dan Wallace
