St. Vincent's College Spirit of Giving Back

Throughout the fall semester St. Vincent's College students, staff and faculty continued to the live out the College mission by giving back to the less fortunate. During this holiday season we will celebrate this "Spirit of Giving Back" by sharing different stories about our community service efforts.

Al's Angels Thanksgiving Meal Project

On Saturday, November 12th St. Vincent's College student, staff and faculty volunteers came together for Al's Angels Thanksgiving Meal Assembly event in Bridgeport. There was a great spirit of collaboration and community from the volunteers in attendance who helped make Thanksgiving a bit brighter for so many families. Over 1,600 meals were prepared for families with children battling cancer, rare blood diseases and severe financial hardship. Volunteers also donated unwrapped toys for the upcoming holiday toy drive.

Housatonic Community College Partners with St. Vincent's College  on Radiography Program

Housatonic Community College and St. Vincent's College will enroll students
for the spring 2017 semester into an Associate Degree program in Radiologic Sciences. Students will take specific courses at HCC and other courses at St. Vincent's College. Students will pay the community college tuition rate for all the courses in the degree program.
The program will prepare students for work in Radiography, an imaging technique using electromagnetic radiation other than visible light to view non-transparent objects. The images are used by radiologists for diagnosis and treatment plans.
The admission process will integrate courses and financial aid at the two schools and students must work with advisors at both schools in planning their academic schedules and progress.
Upon completion of the program, students will earn an Associate Degree in Radiography from St. Vincent's College. They will be eligible to take the ARRT examination for certification and Conn. licensure. Those students who wish to continue their education will be able to seamlessly transfer their credits into the Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Sciences at St. Vincent's College.
The Radiologic Sciences Associate Degree program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and is licensed and accredited by the State of Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education.
HCC President Paul Broadie says, "This important partnership with St. Vincent's College gives us the unique opportunity to offer a timely program in the sciences whose graduates are in high demand. We look forward to this association with St. Vincent's College and developing other programs to help our students on the path to outstanding careers."
St. Vincent's College President Michael Gargano stated, "The development of a regional education consortium that offers quality education, provided by exceptional faculty is good for the State of Connecticut and the Bridgeport metropolitan region. This initiative will set in motion other consortium education programs that will substantially increase the number of Bridgeport residents with an advanced academic credential. This is a model program that acknowledges the possibilities when institutions of higher learning embody the spirit and intent of Students First!"
