Join us for this holiday spectacular and hear the exciting sounds of organ, brass and choir in the glorious accoustics of St James Cathedral, Chicago. This exciting program will include music of Buxtehude, Praetorious and Gabrieli for organ and brass, as well as motets for choir by Palestrina, Part, and Chicago's own Frank Ferko. Visiting Artist Jonathan Ryan will play several works for organ alone: In dulci jubio by Bach, The Nativity from Dupre's Passion Symphony, and finally a rousing arrangemet of Bring a torch, Janette Isabella! by Keith Chapman.
Two major choral works form the centerpiece of this program, however: the Christmas Cantata by the late American composer Daniel Pinkham, and the Chicago Premier of a new setting of the Gloria, for choir, soprano and tenor soloists, brass, organ and tympani, by K. Lee Scott, a contemporary American composer and instructor at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.
