Joan Fulthorp Jubb
(Dec 25, 1938 – Oct 29, 2017)

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Saturday December 2nd, 2017 at 10.30 am at Julian of Norwich Anglican Church at 8 Withrow Avenue , and will be followed by a potluck reception.

AdventWord 2017!

The online advent calendar AdventWord, which draws together peoples’ prayers and meditations around a daily theme, will be available again this year. Images and meditations will be made available via email, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. During the 23 days of Advent, a daily email featuring the AdventWord of the day, will go out at 5 am in the recipients own time-zone. Respondents are encouraged to share their responses to the meditations and images using social media and the hashtag #AdventWord

Quilts for Christmas Eve

A Christmas Bedtime Story, the service for children and the young at heart on Christmas Eve at 7 pm, features quilts on the floor for the children to sit upon. If you are able to lend a colourful quilt or blanket, please drop them off at Reception.

Women Helping Women
You can help! Take an old purse, fill it up with anything a women struggling with homelessness may use (specifically sanitary hygiene products) and donate it to this cause!

From December 4th to 11th

Flowers for Christmas
You can help the Altar Guild decorate the church for Christmas! Please make a donation to St John's, noting that it is for Christmas Flowers. If you would like to remember loved ones with these flowers, please also include a note with their name(s).

You can put your donation in the collection plate on any Sunday or drop it off at the Church Office.
Finances & Projects Update

Sunday, December 3rd
11.45 am, The Chapel

Advent is a good season to take stock and then make plans. To help us do that, TJ (our Treasurer) and Brian (the Rector’s Warden) will be making a presentation on both our financial situation and the status of the capital projects on the go (the Parish Hall fit up, the crumbling wall, the corridor). Grab your coffee and join them in the Chapel. The two presentations and discussion time should take about an hour.
Faith on Film:
"The Lady in the Van"
Sunday, December 3rd 
4 to 9 pm, The Hall
Come for an evening of fellowship and enjoy a potluck meal. We will be watching the film The Lady in the Van (2015) featuring Maggie Smith and then participate in a guided discussion. Transportation can be arranged and all are welcome to attend.

Rector’s Pub Night
Monday, December 4th
6.30 pm, Army Officer’s Mess
(149 Somerset Street, right across from the church)
Come and enjoy a drink and get to know folks. You are welcome to park in the lot beside the Mess and there is an accessible entrance. As we are renting the Mess, there will be an opportunity to donate towards the cost. (No jeans please).

Presentation: Pilgrimage To Bethlehem

Tuesday, December 5th
2 pm, Villagia in The Glebe
480 Metcalfe St

In preparation for the birth of the Christ Child, Kitty Cocks and Gwynneth Evans will show pictures of the landscape, churches and appropriate sites along the way, from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Tea will be served.
Park at Loblaws and enter Villagia from Metcalfe St. tell the receptionist that you are attending Pilgrimage to Bethlehem. Take the stairs or the elevator to the ballroom on the 2nd floor.
Music for Advent & Christmas

Sunday, December 10th
2 pm, St John's Nave

St John’s choir will be joining with the choir of Woodroffe United Church and the Strings of St John's chamber orchestra to present a concert of music for the festive season. The principal work on the programme will be the Magnificat in D by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Tickets at $20 are available from the receptionist in the Church office. The concert will also be offered December 3rd, 2 pm at Woodroffe United Church.

A quiet and relaxed morning celebration of Jesus’ birth.
