#StateCIOsRock

NASCIO has launched the 2016 State CIOs Make a Difference campaign. The campaign, which will run through mid-August, emphasizes the important role CIOs hold in government operations and the innovative and strategic work they lead.

Over the next two weeks, NASCIO will feature the work and accomplishments of State Chief Information Officer and Executive Director Jason Allison and the Florida Agency for State Technology (AST) in the State CIOs Make a Difference Campaign. Allison and AST's profile will specifically highlight the agency's impact since its establishment two years ago, and the core principles that guide the agency's work.

"Our priorities first and foremost are to meet the customer agency's needs," said Allison. "Our job is to be there to support them every step of the way. Technology is there to support the business; their successes are our successes."

To learn more about Allison and the work of AST, visit the campaign website at www.NASCIO.org/CIOsMakeaDifference and follow #StateCIOsRock for campaign highlights and updates.

Cyber Disruption - Every State Must Prepare
Eric Sweden, Program Director, Enterprise Architecture & Governance
NASCIO recently released guidance on cyber disruption response planning. This is a first version report and it is the intention of NASCIO to continue to publish on this topic. Input from across the NASCIO community in reaction to this guidance is highly sought.

This report emphasizes getting started by establishing relationships with key stakeholders. Those relationships are critical to developing the necessary governance, communications and operating discipline for cyber disruption response planning.  Cyber disruptions are events of high magnitude lasting weeks to months. States and local governments must partner now to develop necessary capabilities that will be needed to prevent, mitigate and respond to such events.

Ideas were gathered from those states and regions that have begun work on such capabilities. However, much is yet to be done even in those jurisdictions to build resiliency and ability to recover cyber disruptions.

Download the report at  www.NASCIO.org/CyberDisruption

As you review this guide, take note of what is missing and what improvements can be made to this guidance. Your input is highly appreciated!
