Thank you for subscribing to my e-newsletter.

This edition contains several updates regarding Hurricane Harvey recovery. In the following newsletter, you can find information from the General Land Office regarding the distribution of the Community Development Block Grants for Disaster Recovery. The GLO is requesting input from you, so please be sure to fill out their survey. Commissioner George P. Bush has also provided an insightful video update that you can also watch below.

There is also still time to offer your input on an interest survey relating to flooding for Harris County. The results from survey will be used to establish housing programs needed by the community to recover from Hurricane Harvey. This is extremely important, and I encourage you to fill it out today.

I've also included a new calendar for the month of May. Remember, there are two elections this month. The first election is the Humble ISD bond election which will take place next Saturday, May 5, 2018. early voting for this election ends on Tuesday, May 1. The second election this month is the primary run-off election, which will be held on May 22, 2018. You can find information about those elections in the calendar section.

I would also like to take time to congratulate the Humble ISD students of character who were named earlier this week. My chief of staff, Casey Christman, attended their event last Friday, and I attended the Top 10 dinner last night. Congratulations to all of the honorees and their families.

Next week, my Capitol office will be closed on Monday, April 30 and will re-open on Tuesday, May 1.

I hope that you and your family have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Harris County Appraisal District Property Tax Work Shops
The Harris County Appraisal District has been doing workshops throughout the county for the past four years to help property owners better understand the property tax system. Each year they have taken suggestions from the property owners on ways to improve the workshops.  This year they have created a map to pinpoint the workshop locations so homeowners can go to the one most convenient for them.

The appraisal district does these workshops with the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office so that they can provide a more complete picture of the property tax system. The appraisal district representatives talk about how we value property, the various exemptions that are available that can save homeowners money, the ways to file a protest and what the property owner can expect in a protest hearing. The tax office representatives talk about how property taxes are calculated, payment options and ways to avoid delinquent taxes.

The next workshop in House District 127 is on May 3rd at the Atascocita Branch Library. You can find more information about that event, and other events that HCAD is holding, here.
