A Note from the TEKS Resource System Director, Ann Graves
Hello and welcome from the TEKS Resource System Team. We look forward to another great year with your partnership!

Thanks to the many participants who attended the 2017 TEKS Resource System Summer Conference. Our keynote speaker, Aric Bostic, certainly had us FIRED UP for the start of school. If you missed this conference please mark your calendar for the 2018 conference, July 31 - August 2 in San Antonio. Aric will return as our MC and will provide break-out sessions each day. Also, the presenter application will be posted in November, prior to the Thanksgiving Holidays. Please share your talents with teachers across Texas!

The TEKS Resource System Development Team members are preparing for new ELAR/SLAR standards and Science streamlining. Social Studies will be the next content area to undergo streamlining. Thanks to those currently serving as writers and reviewers for ELAR/SLAR. Your time and talents are deeply appreciated! We love the fact that the TEKS Resource System is a curriculum written by Texas Educators for Texas Educators! Our students are well-served and in good hands!

You can look forward to our quarterly TEKS Resource System Newsletter. We will bring you updates on our content and highlight a specific content team each quarter.

Please remember your feedback is always encouraged. Let us know how we can better serve you! Have a great 2017-2018 school year and GET FIRED UP!

Sincerely,
Ann Graves, Director

Streamlining
  • TEA and the SBOE are beginning the streamlining process. Details on the entire process can be found at http://bit.ly/2xdypEP
  • The revised process for streamlining can be found at http://bit.ly/2vPiY5k
  • The new process is quite a bit different than science and includes multiple opportunities for teacher participation. You should join the work. Application for serving on a streamlining committee can be found at http://bit.ly/2gKiq6o. Only 85 have applied so far.
  • The new schedule for TEKS revisions and Instructional Materials adoption has been released and can be found at http://bit.ly/2eKtujp. Social Studies will not start a full revision of the TEKS until 2023.
  • Part of streamlining includes an opportunity to provide feedback in the form of a survey on individual standards. The elementary survey can be found at http://bit.ly/2eNO5XM while the secondary survey can be found at http://bit.ly/2gLgkTN. Surveys close October 6.
  • Stakeholder meetings will occur in October. TEA will be meeting with professional groups to determine how to coordinate input.
  • Members for Workgroup A will be notified in November.
  • Due to Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts, the meetings for workgroups has been delayed approximately 3 months. The first meetings should be held in January.
  • Our team is monitoring the process and will provide periodic updates on progress.

Curriculum
  • Most of our curriculum work will be limited to tweaks until the streamlining process is complete. We will then begin any redevelopment necessary depending on the degree of revision done during streamlining.
Assessment
  • STAAR Analysis will begin this fall and will roll out prior to the Christmas break.
  • We have completed our inaugural item writing contracts. We have approximately 125 new items that are making their way through the review process. We expect those to being going live in the next few weeks.
  • We intend to have additional item writing contracts later in the fall. If you are interested in writing, please complete an application at the Region 13 employment website found at http://bit.ly/2gKVjsm.
  • We are working on improving Performance Assessment after training with Jay McTighe. These efforts will be folded into our overall redevelopment around streamlining.
  • Currently, we have approximately 3610 live items in grades 2-12 with the plan to add several hundred more this year. Currently we have approximately 386 live Performance Assessments across all grades.
