The Glendale Chamber Needs Your Assistance
|
|
The Glendale Chamber of Commerce seeks your input.
Our goal is to gather pertinent information which can assist in our ability to shape a prosperous local economy.
Please complete this survey by Friday, June 9th.
We appreciate your feedback and support.

A proactive partnership between businesses and local government is the foundation of democratic participation. Through its engagement with What Works Cities, the city of Glendale has been working with the Sunlight Foundation on the development of tools and initiatives that would formalize the city’s commitment to increasing transparency and access to public information for the benefit of the community and the city is seeking feedback on a draft resolution that would establish an Open Data Program. The purpose of developing a formal program is to create an actionable plan for city administrators that calls for the proactive publication of city data with the hopeful outcome of improving service delivery and creating opportunities for community-driven dialogue around data and problem-solving. Glendale is seeking public feedback through June 15th and the Chamber is encouraging its members to review and comment on the draft resolution which can be found here. You can simply indicate your support or opposition of the document, you can read comments, and you can create a log-in to provide specific comments/feedback on the proposed resolution. If you have specific questions, please contact Jean Moreno (copied) with the city at 623-930-2973 or by email at [email protected].

Tonoho O'Odham Nation and State of Arizona Settle Casino Litigation
|
|
The Tohono O’odham Nation and the State of Arizona jointly announced today an agreement to settle their dispute regarding the Desert Diamond Casino West Valley near the City of Glendale.
Under this agreement, the Nation will move forward with Class III gaming at its West Valley facility under an amended tribal-state gaming compact. The State will process the West Valley facility’s Class III gaming certification and liquor license in the normal course of the regulatory process. The State has also agreed that it will not oppose the Nation’s efforts to have its land immediately adjacent to the West Valley facility taken into trust.
In exchange, the Nation has agreed not to conduct Class II or Class III gaming anywhere else in a designated geographical area that includes metropolitan Phoenix during the term of the agreement. Additionally, although the Nation will retain its ability to acquire new reservation land under the terms of Public Law 99-503, known as the “Gila Bend Indian Reservation Lands Replacement Act,” the Nation also has agreed not to request that the Secretary of the Interior take any other land in that area into trust for the purpose of gaming during the agreement term. These restrictions will terminate if federal or state legislation is enacted that bars the Nation from conducting Class II or Class III gaming on the West Valley land, or if another tribe conducts Class III gaming on new trust lands in the designated geographical area.

Glendale Named Number One Emerging Travel Destination by Online Travel Site Trivago
|
On the heels of celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week, it is fitting that Glendale, Arizona, has been rated the number one emerging destination in the country, as ranked by the international on-line vacation search engine, Trivago. Based on data collected by Trivago that measures US destinations, Glendale saw an online increase of 43% in visits by domestic travelers over this time last year.
“Glendale has many wonderful hoteliers, major league sports facilities and community and regional amenities that have helped to define our city as a national and international destination. We are very excited to learn of this honor and it is evidence that the Visit Glendale campaign is connecting with the national and international convention and tourism industry.” said Erik Strunk, director of the Public Facilities, Recreation & Special Events department for the city of Glendale.

Vote By Mail Elections for Maricopa County
|
|
Maricopa County will be switching to all vote by mail elections for all small jurisdictional elections across the county in 2017.
All voters in the election jurisdiction get a ballot and they can either return it by mail, drop it at a ballot
center or collection site or vote in-person at a ballot center or megasite.
Vote by mail is more cost efficient for the County and for jurisdictions than holding in-person and vote by mail
elections simultaneously. It does not require the Maricopa County Elections Department to use outdated
tabulation machines or ePollbooks creating a more secure voting system, free from double votes.
