An Interview with L.A. Knight
Get Your Copy Now
The new laugh-out-loud novel, "DOG TRAINING THE AMERICAN MALE" by L.A. Knight introduces readers to Dr. Nancy Beach, a relationship counselor who hosts a local radio show in South Florida called Love's a Beach. One problem: The relationship "expert" can't seem to make her own relationships work, sending her credibility and ratings into the toilet.

Nancy is set-up on a blind date with Jacob Cope, a Lehman Brothers casualty who lost his job and swagger and yearns to be a ventriloquist. Jacob is a walking thesaurus of phobias and now he's dating a psych major... the two are either perfect for each other or the relationship is a ticking time bomb.

Anxious to be rid of their siblings, Jacob's brother (gynecologist Vinnie) and Nancy's lesbian sister (Lana) encourage the young couple to move in together. When the honeymoon stage abruptly ends, Lana advises Jacob to buy her neurotic sister a little white foofie dog. Being a typical man, Jacob brings home with a 120 pound German Shepherd.

Chaos ensues and Nancy flips out. But after hiring a dog trainer she has an epiphany - what if the dog trainer's techniques can be used to housebreak Jacob? That begins a wild, hilarious social experiment that every couple and dog owner can identify with.

When it comes to relationships and dogs, L.A. Knight is battle-tested in both areas. The author, who has dogs and has been married twice (the second for twenty-five years), says he was inspired to write the book after a particularly heated argument with his wife. "I couldn't understand how my seemingly innocent statement could be so blatantly misunderstood; we were speaking the same language but our brains were wired differently. In the heat of battle my wife yelled at my dog ... and there was zero miscommunication. Well guess what - men and dogs are far more alike than men and women. We're both simple creatures with simple needs. Ergo, if a dog can be trained..."

Knight says women love the book, but that he really wrote it for guys. "Men want to be trained, trust me. When a man speaks to his woman it can be like walking blindly through a minefield - the wrong word or misplaced syllable has the potential to blow up. Last week we got into an argument over something I said 18 years ago! It's like her brain has a Google search on it. And like a dumb animal, I walked right into the crossfire. A shock collar is much easier on my nerves."
