The whole world was shocked and saddened to learn this week of the passing of a boxing legend, Muhammad Ali/AKA as Cassius Clay.
Most of the civilized world well know this famous quote of his:
"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee."
But another quote from this icon caught my eye:
"It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up."
It sounds to me like he really understood WHO and WHAT he was, JUST:
"
A VAPOUR, THAT APPEARETH FOR A LITTLE TIME, AND THEN VANISHETH AWAY!!!"
May we all say AMEN!!??
As I typed these words, the Lord reminded my a TRUE STORY!
MANY years ago, I was FORCED to attend a PRAYER Breakfast for the Gospel icon, Carman:
I say FORCED because it was on my one day off-a Saturday-and by then, I had had my fill of "famous" Christians.
My job as Music Minister required me to pick and transport all "famous" Christian artists and speakers to and from the Atlanta airport.
Carman was scheduled to hold a concert in the Georgia Dome-an arena that sat 60,00 people and the breakfast for all the surrounding Churches to meet, greet, and PRAY for the event.
There was much boasting about his ability to FILL the Georgia dome with 60,000 people-not so much from him, but from others.
I considered this to be too much arrogance from someone as "humble" as little ole me!
So I went at the insistence of my Pastor-kicking, complaining, and screaming all the way.
As fate would have it, I was seated directly across from him at the breakfast table, and yep-YOU GUESSED IT!- sitting next to him was a VERY YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL SINGLE WOMAN!!!!
Carman was also single and very handsome!!!
Now I was also indignant-the NERVE of this so called, FAMOUS "Christian" artist!!!
Traveling the world, rich, famous, and accompanied with and by this beautiful, SINGLE, "traveling secretary"!!?????
After enduring polite conversation with he and SHE, Carman took the small stage and made this WONDERFUL and AMAZING statement.
He said:
"
I do not know how or WHY God uses me to reach so many people!!
It is not me or my human ability-it is ALL His Plan and His Working!!
But, soon enough, another will take my place and I will be forgotten."
Sounds a lot like what Mr. Ali said:
"It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up."
To end my TRUE story, Carman began to sing and the ANOINTING OF GOD immediately fell on all-ESPECIALLY ME!!
Instantly-the moment he began to sing-I found myself on my feet, hands raised in the air, floating in the SPIRIT of God.
My big/haughty mouth was closed as I understood the Glory of God and His AMAZING ways!!!
