Here's what's new in July ...

Free Pattern-Stitch Sampler
,

Hope you are having a happy 4th, celebrating our nation's birthday! It makes me want to stitch in red, white and blue!

I can't believe the year is half gone. I've been stitching non-stop, working on blocks for the Woodland Whimsy and Dear Jane classes, the Fall Tea & Stitches project, and an exciting new project for next year's spring retreat.

The response to last month's free pattern was so positive that I'm featuring another this month. The sample quilt pattern complements the featured product at Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe. Read more below!

A Free Pattern for You!

This free pattern, a favorite of mine, complements my book, "Applique and Embroidery Fundamentals." It's a sweet Stitch Sampler, pictured on page 90, which allows you to practice the book's techniques while making a 22 x 22 inch sampler in colors and materials uniquely your own. Stop by Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe this month to see finished quilt on display, and please feel free to email me photos of YOUR finished piece. Enjoy!

For Your Quilting Library

This month's selection is a wish list item. "Old Quilts," by William Rush Dunton, Jr., M.D., was published in 1946 by the author in a limited edition hardcover for $5. Today, it is a collector's item. Original hardback copies are hard to find, but digital copies are more readily available.

Dr. Dunton was a man of many interests, just one of which was quilting, and in particular Baltimore album quilts. His interest was reportedly sparked by Marie Webster, author of "Quilts: Their Story and How to Make Them," another good book for your library!

Here's an excerpt from Dr. Dunton's introduction: "It is hoped that there may be stimulated in the mind of the reader a greater respect for the needlework of the women who have passed on and also for their artistic ability which found expression with needle and fabrics..."

Although the pictures of the 125 quilts are black and white, they along with Dr. Dunton's text still inspire needle artists today.

Here is our beloved Sammy, making himself at home in a cozy pair of slippers and looking very happy about it!
