August  News
,

Hello! Hope you have been enjoying the lazy days of summer, whether you're basking in the sunshine or staying inside to enjoy the cooling breeze of air conditioning! I'll be teaching some new classes at Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe soon, and am excited to be part of next year's Academy of Applique in Historic Williamsburg. Read on for this month's news ....

Join Me in Williamsburg!

I'm excited to be returning to the Academy of Applique, this time as a teacher! The Academy takes place Mar. 4-9, 2019, in Historic Williamsburg. Hosted by Barbara Blanton, it continues the Baltimore Album revival pioneered by Elly Sienkiewicz, but has expanded it to include all forms of applique. I'll be teaching Romantic Baskets, a sweet quilt featuring pieced baskets with embroidered handles. Hope to see you there!

Embellished Flower Vase

Second Saturdays, August-January at 1pm.
Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe

Have fun experimenting with threads, ribbons and stitches as you embellish a preprinted fabric panel! Over the course of six monthly classes, you'll learn and practice techniques for embroidery, dimensional work, woven baskets and more!

Rita's Satchel

Cinnamon's Quilt Shoppe

Enjoy making and using this fun bag, perfect for stitching supplies.  The bag has four pockets and a detachable flower pincushion on the inside. While the pattern uses hand stitch only, you'll learn to make the entire bag on your sewing machine!

Free Pattern - Last Chance!

My summer gift to you, a free Mini Iron Travel Set pattern, will be available on my website through August only. If you haven't downloaded the pattern yet, be sure to get your copy. If you make the project, please share pictures with me. I'd love to see your efforts!

For Your Quilting Library

I'm heading to a needlework retreat this month and have been prepping two English paper piecing projects to take along. I've been using English Paper Piecing, a new book by Florence Knapp, and wanted to share it with you.

Florence covers all the basics, from cutting (even fussy cutting), to sewing, to designing. I love that she shares how to prep all the different shapes available to us today. The book is filled with useful tips, preferred tools for achieving great results, and "inspiring articles that showcase the beauty and benefits of creating with our hands." It's a great reference tool, as well as inspirational, so you know I'm a fan!
Stitching Companions

Oh my! Sophia's helping me this afternoon!

In Closing

I think of you as I am stitching, and all who are part of our stitching community. It is a pleasure to carry on the traditions of needlework with you. Til next month, stay stitching!
