Greetings!
Happy new year. While getting back into the swing of things is difficult right after the holidays, 2012 is here, and with it, a lot of political activity. In this first update of the year, we discuss our first endorsement meeting, next week's special L.A. City Council Election, a 51st Assembly District candidates forum, and information about this year's Stoney Awards. Also, in our President's message, some changes to our Steering Committee. Here's to a victorious 2012.
Sincerely,
Media and Information Committee Chair Stonewall Democratic Club

51st Assembly Candidates Forum

Location: El Arco Iris Restaurant
5684 York Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90042

The 51st Assembly District candidates forum this Sunday, January 15, is an important opportunity to meet, hear from, and question candidates in advance of Stonewall's endorsement meeting Wednesday, January 18. This district, most of which is the current 45th, has a rich history of progressive Assemblymembers (Jackie Goldberg, former Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa, Kevin DeLeon, and now Gil Cedillo - author of the just-passed DREAM ACT)
We trust this will be a very valuable and important opportunity for education and dialogue. This is also the first time candidates will be sitting side by side answering the same questions!
If you are unsure of what your newly drawn assembly district is, you can check your district online.

A Special Note From Our President
As many of you are aware, serving as an officer of Stonewall Democratic Club is a completely volunteer activity. Over the years, our organization has had the great fortune of being led by such wonderful people who make up our Steering Committee, giving their time, effort, and their own special skills. Unfortunately, sometimes, life gets in the way, and these leaders have to make tough decisions about what they can and can't do with their time and efforts.
Over the past month, both Operations Vice President Chris Braun and Community Vice President Laurette Healey have resigned for separate reasons. Chris has moved home to Wisconsin to take care of some family issues. Laurette resigned so that she could focus on her campaign for the California State Assembly. On behalf of the Steering Committee, and the entire club, I thank them both for their dedication and service to our club and the causes we stand for. We all wish them well in their future endeavors.
More information regarding the filling of these vacancies will be forthcoming.
Sincerely,
Stephen David Simon
President
Stonewall Democratic Club

We at Stonewall are proud to have endorsed Assemblymember Warren Furutani for L.A. City Council in the special election to replace now Congresswoman Janice Hahn. The election is just around the corner, Tuesday, January 17th.
However, endorsing our candidates is not enough. It is important that we get out and support them. Please visit Assemblymember Furutani's campaign website so you can find ways that you can help Stonewall help his campaign.
