Tobi Says...
"Brooklyn records
  storage fire releases
  confidential papers.
Is it safer to store files
  or shred them?"

Massive release of stored paper records after a fire in Brooklyn:

The burning records storage company released medical, legal, and financial records onto the streets and into New York Harbor.  The New York Times reported:

"The warehouse disgorged so many papers that they clogged the CitiStorage Fire water-intake system of one of the fireboats aiming high-powered jets of water into the smoldering, ice-covered building, trying to smother flames that were still flaring up on Sunday. The current carried more papers to shore, luring people who paged through some documents, photographed others and kept more than a few as souvenirs."

Is there a good business reason to store all the documents you have stored?

Are stored records unnecessarily subject to discovery in a lawsuit?

Would it be safer and less expensive to shred records you don't need?
