Track & Field 2018 Season
March 26, 2018

Greetings!
We had a great turn out for our meet with 240 Personal Records achieved from the athletes !!

This week we are hosting 2 team. Volunteering is very important from each Family. We ask a total of 8 hours at the meets through out the season . We did not have enough set up help or clean up help last week.
We rent a truck on Friday to bring all the equipment from our storage and really need help loading and unloading the truck. Hosting a meet is a huge undertaking and we need all families to help conduct it. We ask for the extra home meets so that you do not have to travel.

This week we will have the staging, announcing, and finish line, also the high jump and shot put to run along with field set up. As you you know we are all volunteers and rely on all of Storm to help make us the best. Please sign up on the volunteer genius when it is sent out. If we all pitch in the work load is easy!
all the jobs are easy to learn at the meet!!
Results are posted on livetrackresults.com during our home meets, and on our website after the meets. If you would like to see the conference results of the other teams you can go on valleyconference.org and select the 2018 season. All results are posted there as they come in after the meets.

This week we will have our communication boxes out for you to pick up your ribbons. They should be out on Tuesday and Wednesday. The kids work very hard for this and they get a ribbon for every event they compete in. Please be careful not to pull the entire folder out when you are picking up. All family members in the same household will be in the same folder. there will be 2 meets plus the P.R. ribbons at practice PLEASE PICK THEM UP!

Saugus High Track team has been very good to us. They are having a Fundraiser at Vincenzo"s Pizza on Plum Canyon 5-9 so any one wanting a great pizza, stop by and make sure you tell them your there for Saugus Track.

LAP-A-THON FUNDS ARE DUE ON THURSDAY MARCH 29TH

Make up Picture Day Thursday at 5:00 at Saugus High

Track Meet Saturday
Our track meet will be this weekend It is at Saugus High, Start time to arrive is 8:00. I hope you can see how much there is to do at the meet and will volunteer when the sign up genius is sent later this week. WE KNOW MANY WILL GO OUT OF TOWN FOR SPRING BREAK PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY DO NOT SIGN UP FOR EVENTS FOR THE MEETS If YOU WILL BE GONE.

Athletes will be signing up with their coaches for their events, Depending on the age of the athlete there are limits in how many events they can do each week. Sub-Gremlins & Gremlins are limited to a maximum of 3 events, everyone else is limited to 4 event maximum, but 1 event has to be a relay for Bantam through Youth , Intermediates 4th event can be an individual event (ie not limited to a relay), an event is either a running or field event, so the limitation can be any combination of those events but not more that 3 single events.for example 100. 400, and High Jump would be 3 single events.

If you have any questions about the number of events please ask your coach. The conference has a very strict policy about over eventing, the athlete will be Disqualified in all events of the day if they compete in too many events at a meet.

Athletes who compete in more than the maximum number of events will have ALL marks for the day disqualified, and would cause their relay team to be disqualified. Please address any questions to your coach to avoid any possibility of exceeding the maximum allowable number of events.

Running vs Field Events

Running events take precedence over field events. First check in at your field event. After the 2nd call for a running event, check out with the field event judge and proceed to the staging area to check in for your running event. Return to the field event within 5 minutes of completing your race or you will not be allowed to complete the event.

THINGS TO BRING TO A TRACK MEET
Water (lots of it)
Snacks (healthy ones) fruits, veggies, sandwiches, power bars, health bars, etc.
Sunscreen
Umbrella/canopy
Complete uniform
Games
Sweats/warm-up outfit
PowerAde/Gatorade (if desired)
Running Shoes/Spikes

THINGS TO DO AT A TRACK MEET
The first thing on arrival is to have your child find his or her age group coach. Check in with them to get the event tags they will be doing at that meet. Make sure they have their sweats on, it will be cool when they arrive.

Your child will need to be aware, at all times, of where his or her coaches are. Keep track of what event is being called (“First call, all Gremlin Girls 200 meters, Last call, all Midget Boys 1500 meters”, etc). It is impossible for the coaches to know where thirty or forty athletes are.
Athletes must warm up before each event. Have them check with their coach on when they should report in for warm ups with their group.
As the day warms up, keep your athlete OUT OF THE SUN. Use lots of sunscreen, and have them drink plenty of water and drinks like Gatorade/Powerade. NO SODA!!. Soda depletes the body of fluids. Keep them relaxed and from running around. This is a good time to have them play cards or board games with a friend.
Scholastic Awards
In an effort to emphasize the importance of maintaining scholastic ability in conjunction with athletic ability, the Santa Clarita Track Club, Inc. in cooperation with local school districts, awards a Scholastic Achievement Medal to all active athletes that maintain a 'B+' (3.5) grade point average or better during the season. The medal is engraved with the student's name, year and symbol of the sport in which he/she is participating. A special President's Award Medal is presented to players that maintain straight A's.

The Deadline for turning in the form is April 13, 2017

Relay Expectations
Many parents are asking how relays are determined, here is a brief description on how this is done. There will be some very disappointed athletes at the meet if your child signs up and does not stay, or arrive on time for their team! Not every athlete will get to be on a relay each week but the coaches will try to give an opportunity to those who want to try.

It is very important to the team that if your athlete does sign up for a 4X100 relay that they are at the meet and checked in before 8:30 am so the coaches can assemble the teams. All 4X400 meter relay athlete must check in with coaches before the 200 meter race at the meet. If your child is signed up for a relay and does not show up or is late, it will effect every other relay runner, and disappoint those who can not compete. Please insure they stay for the duration of the meet if they are running the 4X400 relay at the end of the day!

This is the only event that we are strict on signing up for. Please don't sign up for any relay if your athlete can not compete in the event.

Criteria for relay team assignment. Be on time!!
1) coaches discretion
2) attending practice
3) able to hand off smoothly
4) Time in the 100 or 400 at a meet

All of this is considered when coaches put together their teams (A-Team, B-Team, C-Team, etc...).

If you have any questions about this please speak with your age group Coach or Coach Elaine
