Events:
 
Running Events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 4x100m, 4x400m 80m Hurdles,
100m Hurdles
 
Field Events: Running Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump. 
 
 
Track is the one sport that is good training for all sports, whether its Football, Basketball, Soccer, or Baseball, Track & Field will improve your speed, endurance and coordination.
 
 
Practice will begin on
February 11, 2017

As we start our second week I would like to share a few important things about practice to help clear up the Sprint and distance practice procedure. Many new families may not know what each focus's on during practice. Sprint/age group will focus on training for the 100, 200,400, meter races, also hurdles  and some 800 meter athletes. The distance will focus on the 3000, 1500, 800 meter races. Athletes are welcome to try all of the events and explore what they like. Coaches will encourage and direct them as we get to know their strengths.
For new athletes wanting to try distance we do a 1 mile time run to make sure they are safe to leave the track this also lets us determine if they have the endurance to run steady for the 20 to 30 minutes needed for the training. 
Athletes are able to switch during the first few weeks to explore what they like. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions.

February 20-25

Age Group - Sprints
Monday -  Holiday - NO PRACTICE
Tuesday -  Saugus HS  - 6:00 - 7:45
Wednesday -  Saugus HS - 6:00 - 7:45
Thursday - Saugus HS - 6:00 - 7:45  
Saturday -  Saugus HS - 8:00 - 9:45

Distance Athletes
Monday -  Central Park - 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm
Tuesday -  Central Park  - 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm
Wednesday -  No Practice
Thursday -  Central Park - 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm
Saturday -  Saugus HS - 8:00 am - 9:45

Parents please try to arrive 15 minutes early for pick up, in case practice ends early.

Di stance - the approved distance kids will meet at Central Park on the basketball courts. 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm Please pick up kids from Central park before heading back to Saugus High School, if you have children at both practice sites.
If you want to run at the distance practice you must first do the 1 mile test on the track, to be approved. After day lights saving all distance will meet at Saugus High.
RAIN POLICY
If it is raining practice is canceled. However we will practice in a light sprinkle. This makes it tricky, many times it is not raining at the track when it's raining at home. Do not drop off your athlete if there is a chance for a canceled practice, please stick around
Please be sure to text STORMTF to 41411 to be added to our urgent alert system, in the event of a canceled practice, we will send a group text alert out telling parents to pick up their athlete.

 Important Practice Information 
Parents during practice after the athletes start drills all parents and siblings need to leave the track and field. We need all of the lanes and field to conduct practice. All coaches and helpers have been background checked to be with the athletes. You are welcome to walk the perimeter of the track or wait out side the fence. 
Please do not allow siblings to stay unattended at the track or to play on the pole volt pits. The coaches want to focus on your athletes and unattended children are a very big distraction. All Gremlin parent should stay close to the track in case they are needed. 
Please do not yell at your athletes over the fence as this may be different instructions than the coaches have given. During a practice there is a time of fast running and some of recovery. We want the athletes to focus on what has been instructed by the Coaches.
Please feel free to talk to us before or after practice if you have any questions. I know this is very new for many and I want you to enjoy the time on Storm!!

Calendar on Website
There is a calendar on our web site that has most of the practice and meet info on it. It is tentative and will be updated weekly. The schools some times make changes so please remember it is subject to change but we will try to keep it updated as much as possible every week.  
Jelly Beans & Jolly Ranchers
Jelly Beans Parents we ask that you bring 2 bags of jelly beans or Jolly Ranchers.
 
At the end of each practice we give the kids a few jelly beans as a treat. For the kids with braces, we give them a Jolly Rancher. The kids must be heading out the gate in order to get them.
