Wow ! We had a great day at o ur Mock meet! The athletes are looking great and having fun!!  You can find the results on the track page. We had a lot of help and I hope you were able to begin to get the feel of a track meet. We did not do all of the events but I hope you were able to see how the day will flow, our real competition is starting this Saturday! Later this week we will send a better description of how to volunteer for the events. Remember we will teach you all you need to know for all volunteer opportunities and they are very easy to learn.
One of the volunteer jobs we really need this week is for parents with trucks to help out early, and meet at our storage across the street from Valencia High to help us pick up our equipment. We bring out tents and other items for all field events, we  need a lot more equipment for our home meets.
We will also need trucks to take it all back at the end of the meet, about 3:30.  This will be on our sign up genius later this week.

Your athlete must sign up for their events this week at practice, especially the 4X100 and 4X400 relays.  they can only do the amount of events listed, If they go over their events they will loose all times for the day.

Athletes running the 4X100 must check in with their coach by 8:30 am or they may be dropped from the event.  Please read the below info about the meet procedures!

Fleet Feet will be at practice tonight if you still need shoes!!

Make up pictures tonight at Saugus High 5:30 come in uniform

If you got the spikes from me to put in your shoes I should have blanks for your middle space on Wednesday to pick up.

Athletes who compete in more than the maximum number of events will have ALL marks for the day disqualified, and would cause their relay team to be disqualified. Please address any questions to your coach to avoid any possibility of exceeding the maximum allowable number of events.
Running vs Field Events
Running events take precedence over field events. First check in at your field event. After the 2nd call for a running event, check out with the field event judge and proceed to the staging area to check in for your running event. Return to the field event within 5 minutes of completing your race or you will not be allowed to complete the event.
THINGS TO BRING TO A TRACK MEET
Water (lots of it)
Snacks (healthy ones) fruits, veggies, sandwiches, power bars, health bars, etc.
Sunscreen
Umbrella/canopy
Complete uniform
Games
Sweats/warm-up outfit
PowerAde/Gatorade (if desired)
Running Shoes/Spikes
THINGS TO DO AT A TRACK MEET
The first thing on arrival is to have your child find his or her age group coach. Check in with them to get the event tags they will be doing at that meet. Make sure they have their sweats on, it will be cool when they arrive.
Your child will need to be aware, at all times, of where his or her coaches are. Keep track of what event is being called ("First call, all Gremlin Girls 200 meters, Last call, all Midget Boys 1500 meters", etc). It is impossible for the coaches to know where thirty or forty athletes are.
Athletes must warm up before each event. Have them check with their coach on when they should report in for warm ups with their group.
As the day warms up, keep your athlete OUT OF THE SUN. Use lots of sunscreen, and have them drink plenty of water and drinks like Gatorade/Powerade. NO SODA!!. Soda depletes the body of fluids. Keep them relaxed and from running around. This is a good time to have them play cards or board games with a friend.

 First Track Meet
Our first track meet will be this weekend hosting the Hawks Track Club at Valencia High School.

W e will have catering provided by Hall Family Catering. So please be sure to bring some cash for the Concession stand, you won't regret it.

Setup starts at 6:30 am at the Track. We need lots of help with the setup, we meet at the Track,

We will need a few people to setup our staging area in the center of the field, that requires setting up benches for the kids to sit on during staging. a few pop up tents. We need parents to put the hurdles out for the start of the 80 meter Midget races. Please sign up on the sign up genius

Athletes this week will be signing up with their coaches the events they would like to do, Depending on the age of the athlete there are limits in how many events they can do each week. Sub-Gremlins & Gremlins are limited to a maximum of 3 events, everyone else is limited to 4 events maximum, but 1 event has to be a relay for Bantam through Youth, Intermediates 4th event can be an individual event (ie not limited to a relay), If you have any questions about the number of events please ask your coach. The conference has a very strict policy about over eventing, the athlete will be Disqualified in all events of the day if they compete in too many events at a meet.

STORM's first Fundraiser is here! The 25 Score Card is good at over 1000 merchants throughout SCV and LA including Jersey Mike's, Vincenzo's, Buca Di Beppo, Coldstone, Mountasia, Menchies, Color Me Mine, Office Max and so many more plus there's a Mobil app you can download with it too!

The cards will be $20 each! We are asking that each family be responsible for 2 cards at least (more if you can).....you can keep one for the family, sell both off, give them away to clients. Whatever is good for your family but we are requiring 2 cards per household.

There will be a Board Member at most practices with cards available and Team Roster to confirm your participation throughout the month of March.

Thank you so much and see you at the track!

SOAR 2017 Runs LA Marathon
One of my favorite picture opportunities of the year is when I get to pose with our graduating seniors from the Students Off and Running (SOAR) Program. We took just shy of 30 students to run in the LA Marathon, and they all finished. In this senior class, we had several returning multi-year marathon runners, including a 3:36 and 3:23 finisher; the top two times in program history. Many wonder why we make kids run 26 miles. Well, we don't. They chose to do so on their own. This is not about running. This is about setting a high bar of excellence in the midst of challenges and striving to succeed at life. All of these kids are changed forever. Thank you coach Kevin Sarkissian.
Congratulations to our Storm athlete Jamie Lee for competing the full marathon with Coach Danielle!

Coach Wayne Lee
Congratulations  Team SOAR 2017
To quote a nameless marathoner - At mile 20, I thought I was dead. At mile 22, I wished I was dead. At mile 24, I knew I was dead. At mile 26.2, I realized I had become too tough to kill. - Appropriate sentiment for today's journey. The blisters, lost toe nails, hammered legs, pain, and misery will fade in time. But today, you became a marathon runner, forever changed, and I am deeply proud of you all. It's been an honor.
Coach Sarkissian

Congratulations 2017 SOAR! You ROCK!

Alan Bingham
