The El Paso City Council voted for a new Alternate Mayor Pro-Tempore Tuesday, August 12, 2014 during its regular meeting at City Council Chambers.
City Representative Acosta was approved in a 7-1, with Rep. Lili Limon voting no. The Alternate Mayor Pro-Tempore was previously held by former City Representative Eddie Holguin who ran earlier this year for County Judge and was allowed to keep his council seat though a holdover provision until a new representative could be elected.
"Representative Acosta is very knowledgeable about city issues and how to conduct meetings, she is the right person for the job," said City Representative Niland, District 8.
Representative Acosta is responsible for acting in the Mayor's and Mayor's Pro-Tempore absence at council meetings and other functions.
City Representative Emma Acosta was the first woman elected to serve in District 3 on June 2008. She was re-elected in May 2009 and then again in May 2013 when she ran as the only unopposed candidate on city council. She represents District 3 and is an active member of the El Paso MPO Transportation Policy Board, the City of El Paso Financial Oversight Advisory Committee, Evolve Credit Union Board Member, Business United for Inclusion Leadership and Diversity Board Member, Bienvivir Board of Directors and Texas Municipal League Chairperson of Regulation and Development and Co-Chair of General Government Committee.
