Citizens are encouraged to provide feedback on the Sprague Ave. design and development study. The project team will be presenting the preferred design for Sprague and development focus for the South University District. Invest in Your Community - Support Measure 1

On April 17, voters will be asked if they wish to complete the expansion of the Convention Center facility, add more seats to the Arena, and improve the Centennial Trail all at the low, low cost of not raising taxes. This is an investment in the community that will provide a direct return by attracting more visitors, creating jobs, and increasing business.

An important catalytic project of the Downtown Plan Update, the Convention Center is a key anchor and destination for Downtown and a major generator of revenue and jobs for the region.

Completing the Convention Center will make Spokane a more desirable location for larger-scale, major conventions and events, which will generate more revenue and income for the community as a whole. A large part of the cost of improving the convention center will be paid for by visitors to our region through sales and hotel-motel taxes, NO PROPERTY TAXES!

Measure 1 will not increase the tax rate. Rather, it means that the current tax levels will be extended for an additional ten years, and will fund $65 million dollars of improvements.

Measure 1 will result in more than 800 new jobs in the Spokane region and will help retain more than 2,200 jobs in the local hotel-motel and restaurant industries.

For all these reasons, the DSP Board has formally endorsed this project.
